This cosy and comfortable family cottage is situated within a quiet and picturesque area of the Eden Valley. Rural views from the cottage, and numerous walking opportunities from the doorstep.
Set in an area of great antiquity, with many historic settlements nearby, Crosby Ravensworth village is 2 miles east of Shap and 5 miles south west of Appleby. The local church of St Lawrence, in its peaceful setting by Dalebanks Beck, has been called a cathedral in miniature and there is even a 7th century cross in the churchyard.
Millbank is a detached stone cottage at the south end of the village, 200 yards from the award-winning local pub, which was recently bought by the community and serves locally sourced food. Just minutes from the property in the other direction is the unspoilt expanse of Crosby Ravensworth Fell, accessed by a bridleway called ‘Slack Randy’, leading off the road to Orton. The fell still has limestone pavement and the site of a Roman bridge.
Millbank provides light, comfortable ‘upside down’ accommodation, with a bright and spacious living area to the first floor, taking full advantage of the rural outlook.
The oil centrally heated accommodation comprises:

“Warm, spacious house with plenty of daylight in a pleasant conve”

The house is in a quiet rural location. We saw a red squirrel in the garden. Crosby Ravensworth is a pleasant village with walks along a little river. It has a friendly community-run pub and we also found good value pubs in some of the neighbouring villages.
The house is very well equipped and the free broadband worked well. We were very warm and able to dry wet gear easily. We had some difficulties with the hot water, but we have spoken to the owner since our return and are confident that he will get a heating engineer to solve the problem very soon.
We rented the house mainly as a base for hill walking and happily found it was only a short drive both west to the Lake District (Ullswater and Haweswater) and east to the Howgill and neighbouring fells.

A nice clean well appointed cottage in a very friendly village. No mobile signal in the house, but alternatives were available. The people at the local community owned pub were friendly and their meals are excellent. The cottage is on the edge of the Lake District and it made a good jumping off point for us to explore the area. A car was esential if only for food shopping. However, a community village shop, next to the pub, is planned for later this year.

Fantastic base, away from the bustle of Keswick and Kendal but close enough to everything the Lake District has to offer, Highly recommended. Owner lives next door and couldn't be more charming or helpful.
Thank you for your review, it is wonderful to hear that you have had a lovely time at Millbank and that you enjoyed the surrounding area.
