Cruz Bay Cottage is one of the last of the lovely traditional West Indian cottages on St. John. It is located on a quiet little hill above Cruz Bay, within easy walking distance of the town, enjoying a birds eye view of the harbor and St. Thomas with it’s dazzling lights against the night sky. It is truly special and romantic as well as convenient and extremely affordable since it is not necessary to rent a car to have access to groceries, great restaurants and public transportation to the National Park beaches from Cruz Bay as well as the bus to Coral Bay. Even though it is close enough to town to walk it is on the quiet side and enjoys relaxing views of the night sky from the verandah in a peaceful and safe location. The owners call this property, “Grassy Hill” and own a few other private residences in the area. The manager lives near by on the property but the cottage enjoys complete privacy and is a little house all on its’ own. This property
has been completely renovated with all new furnishings and wonderful artistic touches; all the amenities and creature comforts for dining, relaxing and sleeping in comfort.
There is air conditioning if desired but the cottage is airy and cool enough if you prefer not to use it. The bedroom has a brand new Queen size bed, reading lights, fresh new linens, a closet and étargère – the bathroom has been renovated with all new fixtures and tile – it has a shower, full length and magnifying mirror, shelves for your toiletries and a generous supply of new linens. The cottage has a fully stocked kitchen with stove, fridge, brand new dishware, pots and pans for fine dining inside or out on the verandah overlooking Pillsbury Sound and Cruz Bay Harbor. The living room has a comfy new sofa, chairs, table, TV and reading lamps. West Indian plantation shutters and ceiling fans keep things breezy and comfortable while adding a classic note of island charm.
The owners have lived on the island for over four decades and take great pride in the restoration and maintenance of one of the islands’ last representations of the vernacular architecture that once dotted the island of St. John and the Caribbean. These traditional cottages that once graced the landscape with their picturesque charm still symbolize the easy, environmentally sound lifestyle of a bygone era. Now fully restored and refreshed you can enjoy this romantic little cottage, formerly called Yellowbirds’ Nest.

I had the best time at Cruz Bay Cottage. Extremely comfortable, clean, new. The view is great. It's a very quiet place but still at a walkable distance from the center.
I will definitely rent this place again in the future!
Thanks so much for writing - we are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Cruz Bay Cottage and look forward to your return visit - all best, J & A

We wanted to experience St John as a 'local' and this was the perfect place. This cottage is great for two people. The deck has a view of Cruz Bay and there is always a lovely breeze.
It is very convenient to Cruz Bay and the supermarket (a bit of an uphill climb to get back home - but downhill all the way to town).
The cottage is very clean and has everything you need. It's casual and comfortable. We did not use the air conditioning once, but relied on the natural breezes and overhead fans in both rooms.
Our hosts Janet & Andy are long time island residents and were on hand to deal with routine stuff quickly (re-filling the BBQ gas). They have lots of local knowledge if you need it.
This is not a resort or villa, it feels like you are living in St John.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to heading back to our cozy island paradise soon.
p.s. On days we did not rent a jeep we walked to the National Park Headquarters at Cruz Bay and took the Lind Trail to Soloman beach. We had the beach mostly to ourselves. Total one way hike for an average fit person approx. 45 mins)

Amazing!! Very nice, small, cute cottage, exactly what we were looking for. Near Cruz Bay but in a quiet hill, nice view and the house was small yet comfortable, nice and clean.
Janet, the owner, was very kind and helpful. We definitely recommend it!
