Painted Fern- Classic Log Cabin w modern amenities
Description from the owner
Welcome to the Painted Fern Cabin! This is a comfortable, clean, unique place to stay, an old-fashioned feel, with modern amenities, the perfect mix of old and new. The original section of this true log cabin is from 1934, with additional log rooms added in the 40s and a 'modern' addition in 1974. MORE PICTURES ON Facebook @ Painted Fern Cabin. You will notice the windows (re-purposed into built-in shelves) in the log walls from the additions.
The Painted Fern Cabin is a great home base for all your outdoor activities and then relaxing when done. We have a fire pit in the back yard, a picnic table nearby with rock gardens bordering it. Check our Facebook page for more pictures. Walk or ride your ATV to state land (access road adjacent to Sawmill Road) or bring your boat, there's plenty of room for parking a trailer. The winding mountain roads are a fun motorcycle ride on a sunny day. In the fall, the cabin is perfect for hunters and their wives! I planned this trip as a surprise getaway for me, a friend and my dog. Coming from Manhattan the idea of a secluded log cabin in the woods sounded amazing! When we arrived, it was a little difficult to find in the dark but Sharon was very responsive and helped provide directions. The interior is better than the pictures reflect--open, cozy & well stocked with essential items. It was extremely clean and easy to find everything.
On our second day, we got 8 inches of snow (which was a beautiful treat) but caused us to stay in for the day. Worried about digging out to leave the next day we were surprised to find the next morning someone had come and shoveled the driveway, all around my car & the front walkway. It made our exit so much easier & much less stressful.
The nearest town is ~20-30 minutes away, so it is good to plan grocery & liquor store trips with that in mind. The cabin comes furnished will all sorts of card & board games (many of which we hadn't played since we were kids) so we had a great time with Monopoly & Uno. For a weekend away with nothing to do but relax, this was the PERFECT destination. Can't wait to return!. Read more
Thank you, for this terrific review. We did put a bright yellow sign with a painted fern on the fence because it is not that easy to find in the dark, you were certainly right about that, and the landmarks are pretty much trees, even the mailboxes aren't typical here. hahaha I am lucky to have good people working with me on the cabin, I will let them know it was appreciated. We look forward to having you stay with us again.
