It's difficult to put into words the simple beauty and gracious hospitality of Edge of the World Costa Rica. As a college biology instructor, I was quite aware of the biodiversity of Costa Rica, but the Edge of the World property greatly surpassed my expectations. It's one thing to see Costa Rica in National Geographic, but it is a completely awe inspiring experience to actually be immersed right in it, and that is what I truly got when I went there.
If you're looking for the synthetic and artificial surroundings of a multi-million dollar tropical resort, this is not for you. However, if you're looking to stay and explore an old secondary growth tropical rain forest on the Pacific slope of Costa Rica, you simply can not do better. Luke and Devon offer simple, beautiful clean cabins with comfortable beds, hot showers, and kitchenettes.
Hiking, waterfalls, a ten minute drive to the world famous beach at Dominical - I promise, you will not want to leave Edge of the World Costa Rica! Five stars!

Luke & Devon are really great people. They went out of their way to make sure we were all squared away and were a huge help in pointing out some of the really neat things to see on the property and in the general area.
The house: It's a cabana in the jungle. It looked just like the little houses the locals live in. It was recently built, and made all of treated lumber. Windows are screened in so the whole thing is critter proof. We looked at some of the other cabanas, they are all about the same, just different floor plans.
There is no Playstation, no TV, no aC. You will need none of these. There is plenty to do and the temperature is perfect...much cooler than down in the lowlands around the sea. It is a comfortable and dry place to sleep and prep food (there is a fridge...and yes, it is electric).
But the cabanas are only one dimension of the experience of Finca Lagunas. This ain't no 4-star resort. This is for folks who want an authentic jungle experience. We woke up to toucans singing every morning. There were peccaries, agoutis, coatis, monkeys, and sloths in the yard. We were there during the spring migrations, so there were birds everywhere. The property is pretty large and mostly mountainous forest. There are some enormous trees and some streams and a waterfall or two.
It is a gated community with roads between the buildings and some walking trails. And if you are more adventurous, you can pick a direction and go bushwhacking...there is a lot of jungle out there and some great opportunities for some adventure.
The nearest town is Dominical. If you are the outdoorsy type, there is a ton of things to do within easy driving distance...surfing, diving, fishing, waterfalls, hot springs, roads to explore, swimming holes, zip lines, tours, nature preserves, oh my. And we were only there a week.
You don't just get a place to stay...you get a jungle experience. I highly recommend.
