The Domes: A Hobbit House Adventure by the Jungle!
Description from the owner
The Domes is a very special vacation experience. Made of 3 interconnected circular Earthbag domes situated on an organic farm, it's like a Hobbit House for normal size people! Why be square? Go round for a change! The Domes are unique, and you can enjoy stellar views, primary rainforest, privacy & a clean natural environment.
Great for families with kids!
The Domes are perfectly located in the magical Diamante Valley, midway between the bustling dusty surf town of Dominical on the southern Pacific Coast, and the city of San Isidro de El General, gateway to Chirripo Mountain. So within a short drive you have access to endless beaches, world class surf, or Costa Rica's tallest mountain. It's an excellent home base for exploring, and a quiet sanctuary to return to at the end of the day.
What are The Domes?
The Domes features 2 private bedrooms, each in its own dome, with a doorway into the center dome living space. The Master bedroom has a king-size organic cotton and latex mattress in a bamboo canopy bed. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed. There is also a sleeping loft above the master bedroom, accessed by a ladder, that would be super fun for older children.
Also on the main floor is the open air kitchen and bathroom, with bananas and papayas growing right outside! The kitchen has a full-size fridge with large freezer, and a 2-burner gas stovetop. The bathroom has a hot shower (gas and solar), and wonderful tile work of local stones and slate. The Earthbag construction keeps the interiors fresh and cool in Summer, like natural air conditioning! And when it's cool outside at night, it's pleasant inside. The bedrooms, living room and upstairs loft all have doors and window screens.
The upper level is reached by a beautiful hardwood spiral staircase, leading to an expansive roofed deck with stunning views of the mountain beside us, and all the way down the valley towards the ocean. An amazing place for yoga, meditation, hanging in a hammock, and enjoying spectacular sunsets. There is an indoor loft area that can be used as an office or sleeping space (Internet included).
There is a washing machine and a solar laundry drying room on the upper deck, plus a large covered parking area adjoining the back side of The Domes. I live on the farm as well, so am nearby if you have questions or issues.
Where are the Domes?
The Domes sit on their own hill at the upper edge of Fuente Verde, our 60-acre community-owned organic farm, which provides a safe and tranquil environment. It is a very clean environment, and perfect for those with environmental or EMF sensitivities. You are free to explore the farm and hike the trails into the protected primary rainforest that begins only a few hundred yards from your door. Listen to howler monkeys serenading the sunrises and sunsets! Take the family for a dip in our swimming hole and enjoy hiking up the river. Our farm has water from its own springs and abundant fruit trees.
If you would like to stay on our farm, but don't need a space as large as the Domes, we have the Howler Monkey cabin to rent as well. You can see the listing here: http://www.flipkey.com/dominical-cabin-rentals/p769966/
There is excellent bird watching on the farm: our gardens, trees, ponds and rivers provide ample food and shelter for many of the 860 bird species (email: hidden) in or pass through Costa Rica. Our Fuente Verde bird count is close to 200 species! Best times for bird watching are from December to April, when the North American migrant species are overwintering here.
Conveniently located in the Diamante Valley between the mountains and the ocean, the Domes is a great home base for exploring the wonders of this part of Costa Rica. There are an incredible number of things to do in the area; local tour companies offer zip-lining, whitewater kayaking, surf lessons, mangrove tours, sport fishing, whale-watching, waterfall hikes & rappelling, plus so much more!
There are simple grocery stores and restaurants in the nearby village of Tinamastes, only 1.5 km away. Tuesday mornings there is a small organic market in Tinamastes where you can find locally grown fruits & veggies, plus arts & crafts and delicacies like water buffalo cheese! Every Thursday and Friday there is a huge Farmer's Market in San Isidro, 1/2 hour away by car, where you will also find large well-stocked supermarkets and everything else you may need. Each weekly rental includes a free Welcome basket of local fruit and organic coffee!
Getting here and away
To best take advantage of all the local attractions we recommend renting a car. To access the farm a 4 wheel drive vehicle is required. If you don't plan to explore much you can take a taxi here, hang out on the farm, and hire taxis or a rental car only for day trips. There is no public transportation directly to the farm. The nearest daily bus routes stop almost 2 km away....Read more

My family and I rented the Domes for over a year, and we loved it.
The shape of the house is very unique, as well as the building method; The domes are built from mud! The house is like a fairy or an Elf house.
It is located in a sustainable farm that is just overflowing with abundance, clear river you can bathe in, fruits and vegetables, and more.
