We have just returned from a week at Mareas Villas. It is an elegant facility in an beautiful and interesting location. Awakening to the call of the Howler monkeys, gazing at the ocean in the near distance, feeling the cooling breezes sure took away the everyday cares. Going on a river cruise to observe the flora and fauna, zip-lining through the canopy, hiking to waterfalls, walking on the beach, water aerobics in the pool and visiting the market town an hour away were all part of our days. Ending the day with a swim in the gorgeous pool and finally good food and camaraderie sent us off to bed and looking forward to the mornings Howler call. Pilar and Tim provided a wealth of information about the local area and activities. The rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. The open air shower with it's shimmering glass tile walls was an added touch of elegance. Being a chef, I prepared most of our meals in the well-equipped communal kitchen and Tim was an invaluable resource for locating the freshest seafood and the best butcher.

After hours of research on the internet, I thankfully found Mareas Villas (www.mareasvillas.com)! On the surface, it had everything I was looking for. A total of 8 very spacious bedrooms with a perfect bed count (4 King size and 8 Queens.) The villas were very private, with ocean & jungle views, a fantastic infinity pool and a Jacuzzi. We wisely opted to rent two 4X4's (from Vamos rental - we will use them again!) The driveway alone is amazing. The best part of Mareas Villas is that it comes with a Tim and a Pilar! Tim and Pilar are the dynamic duo who make the Mareas experience. Pilar is the coordinator who helped plan all the details of my destination wedding and Tim is the executive chef that handled all of our meals. We strongly recommend letting Pilar handle the planning and Tim the meals. My new husband and I are planning a trip back just so I can have another serving of his cream of mushroom soup and that macaroni and cheese! I was at first intimidated (control freak) about handing over the reins to a stranger to plan my wedding. I had no need to worry. Pilar knew just what needed to be done. My flowers were perfect. My table & wall decorations were perfect. Pilar knew exactly which baker to use to make the rolled fondant cake I sent a picture of! The lawyer who married us, Kristi Penland, was perfect too. She speaks English and Spanish fluently and even though the first time we spoke about the ceremony was Monday the 28th, she put together the perfect ceremony for us. From our very first contact, Pilar kept me on task with her expertise and we were able to talk back and forth via email and Skype. Other than that, we are happy to say that Mareas Villas was the perfect choice for our trip. I read a lot of reviews and after visiting myself, I know that every place is what you make of it and Mareas was a slice of heaven to begin with. Thank you for everything, Tim & Pilar!!

We were really tired of the typical resort vacation, we wanted to reconnect with nature, truly relax and have new experiences. Mares was all that and more. Our extended family group of 15 were all taken back by this luxury villa set in the middle of the jungle. It was great to be away from it all but at the same time have all the service and amenities you expect. The food served at the villa was incredible and great restaurants were also a very close drive. I especially enjoyed the pool and pool waterfall - the view from the pool which looks over the jungle to the ocean were like being part of a National Geographic special. We will go back! We also got to see tons of wildlife; monkeys, birds, sloth... The hosts at Mareas are also very knowledgeable about the area and can tell you many special places to visit. All our best! Cat and family

I don't know where to begin to explain the week long vacation and stay I had at Mareas. The property, location and setting were stunning. The layout and design of the main house, suites and pool where perfect for our group of 17. We spent our days and nights relaxing, enjoying and doing the adventures we have waited a lifetime for. The waterfalls and trails on the property made our morning walks perfect. This is better than I imagined in every way. We will be back soon! Dennis & Maria.

Passing through the iron gates of the Mareas property one knows they will be staying at one of the most special travel destinations in the world. We are greeted at the villa door by the most accomodating hosts that you would ever be able to find. They will attend to your every need whether it be scheduling a river trip, taking a yoga class, finding an excellent place to celebrate an anniversary, doing a hike to one of the waterfalls on the property or just finding a perfect lounging place by the beautiful italian tile infinity pool that overlooks the Pacific. If you feel like eating at the Villa you will be able to enjoy one of the chef prepared exquisite meals prepared by Tim. The property is perfect for groups and individuals because there are spaces where you can have total privacy or be with 18 people. Our room, the front room of the Pacific villa was beautifully furnished, spotless, luxurious, about 1600 square feet with a view that is astonishing for its beauty. The property is a biological and botanical wonder because of all the plant specimens (labeled), animals, toucans, sloths, howler monkies, morpho butterflies, hummingbirds and brightly colored tree frogs. We have made 5 trips to Mareas and the property only gets better and better. We would like to say that we have traveled all over the world but Mareas is our choice for our favorite place to stay on earth.

The minute we arrived,we were warmly greeted by Tim and Pilar and shown around the villa. The villa was beautifully designed. I was impressed by the bi fold doors which opened up to the infinity pool with the ocean serving as a back drop. The rooms are large with incredible bathrooms. Every room had views of either the ocean or the jungle. The villa is nestled between two high hills of jungle and exotic wildlife. We walked everyday on the beach below and hiked the trails that led us to one of the many waterfalls on the property. The evenings with spent watching the sunset over the ocean from our balcony with a glass on wine in hand. We will never forget our visit to Mareas Villa.

The minute we arrived, we were greeted by the Tim and Pilar and shown around the incredible villa. The amenities were amazing. The Master Bath, the shower, the views from every room. My son immediately went swimming in the infinity-edge pool. The view is spectacular; with an unobstructed view to the ocean and nestled in between two high hills of jungle and exotic wildlife. We walked everyday to the beach below and hiked the trails to private waterfalls. Mareas Villa is very private and secluded and a much better way to spend time in Costa Rica then to do the tourist hotel thing. The evenings spent watching the sunset over the ocean from the balcony with a glass of wine will always be cherished.
