Beneath the Starsis truly a little piece of Texas heaven. Located in the Doss Valley, this special guest house situated on 160 acres is less than twenty miles from Fredericksburg (i.e., nine miles from the Hilltop Café). It is the perfect private and romantic get-away, with stunning night skies and plenty of room to take long walks and enjoy the Hill Country. The hosts, who live elsewhere on the property, are a very unique and special couple. Karen is a native Texan married to Heinz, a native German (so if you see them and want to practice your German this would be a good time!). They have had the privilege of living in many places, including Japan.
Once inside this Hill Country contemporary home, a small foyer opens onto a fully-equipped kitchen with granite counters suited to any cooking needs and a dining area with a long harvest dining table perfect for those days you just want to stay in and enjoy your meals. The great room with high cathedral pine ceilings has a comfy sofa and chairs placed to enjoy the stone fireplace, observe the wildlife outside through the wall of windows, or just watch television (basic satellite). A long porch with a rocker-for-two lets you enjoy the morning stillness while sipping your coffee or tea.
A spacious bedroom with an iron king bed dressed in a beautiful comforter, quilt, and lots of soft pillows and twinkling lights await you. The master bath features a deep sitting tub shaped like a barrel that is fun and unique, as well as a spacious glass tiled shower and old dresser with a vessel sink. A small porch with a chimineaoff the master affords an unobstructed view of the night sky. For the very adventurous there is a loft bedroom with skylight windows. The ladder entrance is hidden in the utility room off the kitchen and provides extra sleeping space!
Enjoying this wonderful home and acreage will encourage you to come back to stay again and again. Guests are welcome to roam the property, but be aware of nature’s challenges. Your hosts say possums, raccoons, armadillos, jack rabbits, road runners, and of course, white tail deer, are plentiful along with an occasional grey fox.

Quiet and romantic. Rustic but all the modern amenities. The pictures do not do justice. The hosts thought of everything to make us comfortable. We went for our 5th anniversary. It was perfect, away from the hustle and bustle. Beautiful views. The stars at night are bigger and brighter here.

This house was by far the most outstanding home we stayed at in Fredricksburg. It was very comfortable and had many personal touches that gave you a very welcoming feeling when you came through the door. The hosts were most accommodating to a "gluten free" diet. We have been coming to Fredricksburg in the fall for several years and would definitely return to this property. It was spacious, quiet, comfortable, clean and well maintained.
