Overall the beach house(Banana Republic) is ok. I've stayed in nicer rentals in other beach communities over the years. The major complaint I have is with the overall cleanliness of the rental. The a/c vents were filthy - they looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years!!! Probably the reason my husband was stuffed up all week. The clothes dryer didn't work very well. If you put 2 towels in to dry, it took over an hour. There was a separate ice maker (stand alone unit outside of the refrigerator) that would have been great if it worked. It was in need of being defrosted to make any ice. Rental listing said it provided beach umbrella and chairs - no umbrella to be found and the chairs were in sorry shape. They did however, have a beach cart that we didn't expect. Made it easier to get our stuff to the beach - a +.
I would go back to Duck some day, but wouldn't stay at this rental. Duck is a quaint little town with a great atmosphere. We rented bikes for our teenagers who rode them into town every day on their own to explore the shops. We did the same as well. Sometimes the road into to town can get backed up with traffic, so having bikes is a great option, especially if you need to pick up a few supplies for a meal at home. There aren't may places to dine at in town and most don't take reservations, so you better have plan for your meals or you could find yourself waiting for a table somewhere.

The house was exactly like the online photos and came with everything promised. Its always risky when booking on line with pics only, sight unseen, but Kitty Hawk rentals delivered everything as promised.

We love Duck, NC. It's such a great place to stay with family. We rented a house in Carolina Dunes which was further than we expected but it was still enjoyed ourselves. The Banana Republic, which we rented was not what the pictures showed. There were many things broken when we got there. Further, the stereo crapped out on us and we couldn't get music by the pool or even in the house for that matter. The house was not really clean and it didn't live up to our expectation. Not the first time we rented so I do know the difference. We stopped by the real estate office the next day and told them about the uncleanliness and especially the 1 inch dust ball on the return and they told me they would send someone out to take care of it but never did. Very disappointed with the real estate office response. But made the best of cause the beach and town are worth it. Will never rent this house again nor deal with the real estate office. But definately worth going down to the Outer Banks.

Overall we loved the house. There were only a few minor improvements that were needed. The drawers in the dressers in the bunk bed room and pyramid bedroom did not work well. They were frustrating to open and close. We loved the pool and deck area.We also loved the rocking chairs and table and chairs on the second floor deck. It was so nice to up to the Crow's nest. We hope to rent again next year! The bathroom by the outdoor shower great great. Excellent floor plan! The kitchen was well stocked. A garbage disposal would be great! Thanks for a wonderful week!

the home was beautiful and very welcoming. We had a rodent problem- there were 2 cock roaches and multiple areas needing cleaned when we arrived. Pool filter was not working. TV was not working. Internet was not working, but we did find out that a storm had knocked out power before we came. Pool service did come, but the pool never filtered right the whole time. Very nice gesture of homeowners to have a complimentary cheesecake delivered to the home. We enjoyed our stay. Thanks

We found it unusual that the owners would call our family and ask, during a forced hurricane evacutation, to complete a list of needed hurricane preparation, before they left the property. The list given by the owners stalled our families release from the beach rental and caused them to enter a traffic jam that they could have avoided heading home to Northern Virginia. My daughters and son in laws abided by the owners phone call request to bring items into the home, store valuables in the shower, along with tying down deck furniture/trash cans/miscellaneous items all before they departed using their own rope purchased by our family. I asked, days after this failed hurricane, that the owners acknolwedge my family in some way even a note of thanks or some kind gesture for their willingness to abide by the owners request and have not received any kind of response. One month has passed and I have sent two notes to the realty company. This scheduled trip, the last week in august 2010,was made without insurance because we knew that we would not have coverage if a hurricane hit;we lost three days of our beach week. Our beach home was comfortable but there were a few repairs that needed to be done before we arrived. The quilt in one room was very dirty and old, so the company picked it up for cleaning and planned to return it after our stay. A screen door was ripped and nails were sticking up on the deck, and the Kitty Hawk rental responded immediately within tow hours. Kitty Hawk Rental was great. We did enjoy the home while were were there, but after losing three days and no note from the owners were were disappointed. We would definitely rent through Kitty Hawk because they are wonderful to work with to date
