It's the 'little things' that make a home special. It's true of both residence houses and vacation homes. That's what makes this home so very special. Besides being so close to the sound and being able to see it, the owners have provided life's little luxuries upon it. Luxuries such as new extra deep mattresses (which will be made in preparation for your arrival), TVs that will allow for easy game hookup, a TV in every bedroom, a baby/dog gate for every level, along with a music system for CDs and a DVD library. And because they know that there is 'heated' debate as to which grill is better, gas or charcoal, they have thoughtfully provided both. You will find plenty of beach chairs already provided for you. The home is approximately 600 yards to the ocean for that day in the sun.

We enjoyed staying at Christie in the Tuckahoe development and enjoyed being not only at the beach but also on the soundside.
The home was adequately equipped-I couldn't find potholders though.
The views were wonderful from the decks and porch but could use a powerwash on the lower level.
The 4 rooms were great although the tvs could be updated and all have access to a variety of stations.

My family and I stayed at this house a couple of weeks ago for our vacation. There were only 4 of us and a dog in our party, but the house would accomodate a lot more than that. The beds were amazing...I never wanted to get up in the morning, but it was vacation and if I slept in until 8 it was all good! The queen bedroom on the 2nd floor had a screened in porch and a covered porch which hosted beautiful views of the sound, it also had a chaise lounge where my son wanted to sleep so he could be close to my mom. The master bedroom hosted a king size bed and master bath which had a jacuzzi tub big enough for 2 (used it several times during our stay)!!! The kitchen had anything you needed for cooking at home. Furniture could be updated, but suited our needs. Carpet had some stains, but it is what you would expect for a pet friendly home (and we were super excited that we could bring our dog)! Development was quiet and good place to walk the dog, the pool and tennis court was also used several times during our stay and we loved every minute of it. I would recommend to anyone who wants a nice and peaceful getaway with family/friends/dogs to stay in this home,it has all the ammenities that you will need and would want.

The house was nice however somewhat outdated with furnishings. The livingroom furniture is well past needing to be replaced. There were several outlets that didn't work as well as a burner on the stove. The beach equipment was rusted and beat up so we were happy we brought our own. Our number one problem with this property was the bugs around the exterior of the house. We expected spiders, mosquitos, etc. since we were on the sound. However we were not prepared for what appeared to be oriental cockroaches as well as regular household cockroaches all around the exterior of the house. I'm not completely sure of the type of roaches but what I'm completely sure of is that we were unable to use the decks in the evening. A huge disappointment! Also something that I didn't understand was that the windows all had the screens removed. So we couldn't open any of the windows at night to have a nice cool breeze through out the house. All of the screens were stacked up aside the house. I sent an email to the management company during our stay and 3 weeks later still haven't heard anything. I never went in person because I had kids keeping me too busy!!
On the plus side this house was convienently located to everything. We had a quick 1 minute walk to the sound access which we were able to fish and crab from the dock there. The pool was about a 10 minute walk away. The beach was within walking distance but just easier to drive to with the kids. Private parking (with permit which you receive in your rental packet) right at the beach access entrance. The house was bigger then described in the listing. There's 4 bedrooms. The king bedroom has a huge bathroom next to it with a jacuzzi tub. Then there's 1 and a half baths on the lower level with the 3 other bedrooms. The queen bedroom has 2 decks off of it. Small but 1 is enclosed.
Duck was close enough to anything you could want to do in OBX but much quieter then other towns. The price was definitely right for the size and location.
“Nice trip, but would probably not stay at this particular rental”

As soon as we got there, it didn't take long to not feel comfortable because of the lack of cleanliness. When we opened the blinds, there were tons of spiderwebs on the outside of nearly all the windows. When we turned the air conditioners on, dead bugs blew out of both units - A lot of them. In the kitchen, there was something spilled that hadn't been completely wiped up. The cupboard that we went to put our groceries in was dirty and grimy and had to be cleaned first (which yes, meant us making a special trip for disinfectant wipes, bleach cleaner and extra paper towels). The dishes and silverware that we got out of the cupboards to use were not clean. Most had dried up food on them. Throughout the week we came to realize that this may have had to do with several things - 1)a very cheap dishwasher, 2)lack of hot water to the dishwasher, and 3)the quality of pans at the rental unit. It was also very odd not to have a garbage disposal. Since everything needed scrubbed with brillo pads before placing them in the dishwasher - and nearly everything sticking to the cheap pans - the sink also clogged a lot.
We didn't have an issue with the cleanliness of the beds and bathrooms. They seemed to be pretty well cleaned. (Thankfully) The carpet was average... not great, not bad. The solid floors could have been a little cleaner (slightly sandy, dirty), but they weren't unbearble.
There are also hardly any containers to store left-overs. We ended up buying our own.
All in all, we had a nice trip and awesome weather. It's just that the standard of quality and cleanliness for this rental home should definitely be stepped up. Even though we called right away about the outside of the unit (spiderwebs), nothing was done that week. Someone was sent immediately to clean the kitchen floor and some other areas, but in trying to get settled, we had already taken care of most of it ourselves.

We needed to buy bug spray and use it generously. Spiders everywhere I think because when they added the window airconditioners they Did't seal the gap between the upper and lower windows. Which is an opened invitation to aracnoids... I do not think we will rent here again Becuse we would like to be a little closer to the ocean an because of the spiders.

This is a wonderfully secluded and quiet location. The house is set up perfectly for our family. We appreciate the well-stocked kitchen and having the beds made upon arrival. Sherry in the Duck office of Kitty Hawk Rentals was especially helpful.

I love this house..the location being so close to the sound, and the dock. It is walking distance to the beach and pool. It was clean and well kept. Everything was in good working order. Views of the sound were nice and for a full view of the sun setting was merely a short walk to the dock. Simply breath taking. If you enjoy crabbing and fishing this is the location for it. It is also located close to grocery stores, bait shops, restuarants etc. Oh and lets not forget "Tommy's Market" awesome! It is a great place to enjoy a relaxing peaceful vacation! Enjoy!

The house was exactly what we needed for the eight of us staying there for a week. We had 4 adults and 4 kids ranging in age from 8 to 15. It had all the things we needed to be comfortable. There were some cob webs in the ceiling of the living room and the shower on the second story was clogged up while we were there so a few of us used the outside shower instead.
