Description

Groom's Cottage is a self-catering cottage in the Scottish Borders. This charming vintage-inspired holiday rental is set in the Georgian stables at Wedderburn Castle and offers traditional style with modern comforts. It is located in the countryside, but is just over a mile from the pretty village of Duns. The cottage is dog friendly.

Downstairs there is a sitting/kitchen/dining area with open fireplace, flat-screen television, DVD player and a pine dining table. The stunning tiles on the floor were salvaged from the old dairy at nearby Paxton House and the space is full of character. The kitchen has a hob, oven, microwave and washing machine.

Upstairs there is a comfortable double bedroom with newly-renovated bathroom with a bath and shower. The cosy cottage has 24-hour oil central heating and hot water.

The cottage has a garden outside as well as parking. It is surrounded by the grounds of Wedderburn Castle and you are welcome to walk around the glorious parkland and woodland on the estate.

Groom's Cottage is a great base to explore the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland. To the East there are dramatic coastal walks at Coldingham and St Abbs as well as beaches and soem great diving. To the West there are country houses, ruined abbeys and hills. To the North you can find Edinburgh (just an hour's drive away) and East Lothian, while to the South you can visit Berwick-upon-Tweed, Holy Island, Alnwick Castle and the sights of Northumberland.

There are a large number of walks close to the cottage and it is also well located for Borders cycle routes. There is a golf course within two miles and lots of others within an easy drive. There is also a golf driving range within walking distance.

Groom's Cottage is a cosy country retreat in a unique location.

We welcome well-behaved dogs and charge a £25 per dog supplement.

Getting around

We recommend having a car to make the most of your stay. If you are taking a train to Berwick-upon-Tweed station it is possible to hire a car and have it delivered to the station. It is possible to walk to the village of Duns but please note that the route is along country roads without pavements or streetlights. We would advise particular care at night.

We like to leave you in peace during your stay but if you need anything please let us know – either we our the cottage housekeeper are always around to help.
