Private Paradise close to town, in a prestigious lake community
This is the place to experience a true Durango vacation! With incredible 360 degree mountain views and immaculate landscaping, the newly renovated Double J offers a full kitchen, a dining and living area with beautiful light coming through the impressive 2 story windows. The living room features a wood burning stove for those chilly nights, and a small library with books related to the area.
Off the living/dining room is a spacious deck, the perfect place to enjoy a meal, or just absorb the beauty of the glorious aspens and pines, any time of day. Beyond the grassy landscaped grounds, you can unwind while watching a variety of interesting water fowl that abound in and around the close by pond. (sorry, no fishing!) On the main floor, there is a second bedroom with twin beds and a large closet. Adjacent to this bedroom is a spacious bathroom with shower.
The cabin's upper level has a large master suite with king bed, and an adjoining sitting area - the perfect place to read, or just relax and take in this amazing setting. The master has a new full bath with a large jacuzzi tub, double sinks, and a walk-in closet.
The cabin's decor is done in comfortable Durango style furnishings, with artwork that boasts the wonderful wildlife and scenery that this area is known for. The high ceilings bring in lots of natural light.
The private Electra Lake can be accessed by registering at the gate; it's a great place for picnicking, fishing, and boating, and it's just 2 minutes away. There's also a seasonal restaurant right on the lake featuring gourmet food. Catch the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad just 1/4 mile away at the Rockwood Station. Durango Mountain Resort is just 5 minutes away. Ride the chairlift in the summer months and see the impressive 14,000 ft. San Juan Mountains. The Resort also has a popular alpine slide, climbing wall, and human maze. Admit it, wouldn't you rather be here?

The cabin was nice enough for a cabin and the deck was great for relaxing. The kitchen was supplied adequately and we appreciated the gas grill on the deck. There were major cobwebs at at the vaulted ceilings and had to do some cleaning of our own in downstairs bathroom before guests arrived but had very limited cleaning supplies. The wall of windows needed a major cleaning. All mattresses had seen better days and found it difficult to get a good nights sleep. This could be a real gem with more TLC. For the price, I think they could improve a few things. Their ads mention Electra Lake right down the dirt road but don't tell you that you have to pay $5 per person per day to even walk to it. If you fish their I guess it is a bargain but we were not there to fish. Also mention a pond not on but near the property, but obscured by trees and bushes at this time of year and didn't see any wildlife near it. It was an O.K. place but for the price we will find something else next time.

We loved this cabin. It was a great size, comfortable furniture and fully stocked with amenities. There is a binder with just about every diner, activity and shop you could think of (in the area). The view was nice and full of wildlife. We recommend this cabin as it sleeps 4-6 and is centrally located (between Durango and Silverton with all of the beauty in between). Recommend the owner leave an inventory list for guests. It can get a little hectic packing up your stuff while making sure to leave the cabin like you found it. Some things came up missing after we left that we didnt even know were there in the first place. All in all a great experience!

everything about our stay was very pleasant except I would recommend that furniture be put out on the deck. There is a nice little pond and grass to look at but nowhere to sit or a table to put a drink on. We ended up going to the store and buying 2 chairs. Other than that everything was very nice.

We really enjoyed the Double J cabin. The cabin is cozy and well equipped with anything you might need. We especially liked the back view of the cabin from the deck and the ease of getting to the Durango Mountain Resort for skiing.

We stayed at the Double J, because of the proximity to Purgatory, and Durango. We had our two teenage boys with us and the cabin although small, was cozy and comfy.
We brought groceries and lots of things to cook, but unfortunately ended up having to buy baking pans and pots, because the kitchen was very poorly equipped. Rusty pans, limp silverware, and lots of broken bits and pieces of ?. We washed everything before we used it as all was gummy, and dirty.
The dark green carpet everywhere had dog hair from the last visitor and the whole place, although not filthy, just seemed a bit grimy. Nothing that a good cleaning couldn't handle.
It was a good location, and we had a good time, AFTER we cleaned.
