Orchard Farm House is a spacious Lakeland farmhouse situated in the quiet village of Eaglesfield near Cockermouth. The farmhouse which sleeps 5 has a cosy open fire, exposed beams and a delightful mature garden to the rear. An ideal base for families wishing to explore the delights of the Solway Coast, northern and western Lake District.
The village of Eaglesfield is situated in rural surroundings close to the beautiful lakes of Loweswater, Buttermere, Crummock and Ennerdale. Ennerdale is one of the most westerly of the lakes and is off the main tourist track making it a truly peaceful and beautiful lake to visit making it suitable for walking and cycling. The market town of Cockermouth is only a short drive away and is famous for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth.
Orchard Farm House is a characterful farm house which has been furnished and equipped to a very good standard, retaining many of the original features including exposed beams and stonework. The cottage has a delightful terrace garden to the rear with patio area and raised lawned garden with mature borders.

We booked a 3 night stay with our friends, and our dogs (2). The house is nice,with adequate facilities, although water pressure is not very powerful in shower... perhaps its down to the area? The owner's home is attached. We enjoyed the stay, until the second day when we received a phonecall from Holiday Cottages asking us about having 2 dogs with us...and not having included the 2 dogs in the booking... only to be informed we would have to pay an additional £40 (£20 per dog). I was gobsmacked!!! And subsequent telephone conversations with the cottage Holiday Group still leave me upset, annoyed and perturbed, to say the least. We definately made the booking on the basis we were taking our 2 dogs.But they are disputing this. I would not have made the booking for this place, knowing I would be charged an additonal £40 for 2 dogs... sorry but it isnt worth the £290 for 3 nights... then an additional £40, no way. Cottage Holiday Group.. I await your response, as I feel you have made the mistake, not me. Ps We left the property spotless.

This property was booked directly over the phone.
At no point during the booking process were dogs added. All booking details had been repeated back before payment was taken. A confirmation email was immediately sent, which shows how many guests, costs for any dogs and payment details. A copy of this is also sent direct to the owners, cleaners and caretakers.
Unfortunately we did not receive any query regarding missing pets on receipt of the confirmation email or before arrival. We were made aware of the dogs directly from the owner during this stay.
All our pet friendly properties charge £20 per pet per stay/week. This is stated on our web site and our brochure.
Not all of our guests who stay in pet friendly properties wish to bring pets. It is up to each individual guest to advise at the time of booking, if they plan to bring pets to a specific property. We can then advise on the number of pets allowed and price.
We hope to welcome you back to one of our properties in the future.

A beautifully equipped cottage, friendly hosts, and within easy travel of a reasonably big shopping area.
Plenty to see and do with lovely walks and fantastic scenery.
Enjoy the great outdoors and then come back to a lovely centrally heated cottage with open fires to boost and relax over a meal, what more could you ask for! Perhaps a better can opener!

This is a real cottage but with some fabulous modern twists - the kitchen and range cooker are lovely! Lovely bathroom and it was great also having ensuite facilities and downstairs shower room/WC.
The garden is lovely, although not incredibly private as it is adjacent to owners property and used to access their farmland. Having said that, the owners were friendly and lovely.
One thing we wish we had known or had highlighted before we went is that the stair case was what I would describe as "open" with gaps between each stair. At the top of the stairs, there was a large open gap from the floor to the railings overlooking the floor below. Having taken away a crawling baby of 9 months old and 2 and a half year old, they were obviously continually supervised but this was always a concern to us. As stated in the description the garden was raised, and also required caution at all times with young children. And also, lots of ornaments etc around the place. So all in all, it was a lovely place and good for a peaceful holiday but only a short drive from some lovely places, but I would recommend this holiday for families with older children or adults unless some alterations are made.

We had a wonderful holiday away from the crowds in the lakes but close enough to shops and amenities for essentials. The cottage was lovely with everything we needed, including a large drying room for the inevitable wet clothes and boots!! We hope to come back next year.
