Thank you Suzanne and Arthur As far as we are concerned, Orcas Island is one of the most beautiful islands to visit in Washington State! The natural beauty here with the colors of the Madrona trees, the sparkle of the water and the abundant wildlife are absolutely spectacular and a pure joy to witness. Orcas Island is abundant with pottery shops, artisan shops, music in the park, theater, kayaking, hiking, whale watching, boating, fishing, swimming and water all around....Its the best island and most magical!!!! The Hobbit house is nestled in the woods with views of the water through the trees...it is very quiet and peaceful! It was custom built with much tender loving care by Sunray Kelly, an alternative northwest designer/builder. The house was built with mostly natural materials and a low impact on the environment. We keep working on it....it has needed some restoration work and so we are continuously reworking, repairing, adding onto it to make it better and better. Arthur is the resident WOOD WIZARD whose work is the work of a genius. Working on a house is not easy but try working on a round house.....every project takes 10 times longer....really! I couldn't have asked for a better person to help me with this. Suzanne, me....is his assistant most of the time....running around for tools and materials and helping the process go smoother.... Tons of love is put into it between travelers...........We truly hope you enjoy yourself thoroughly!!!!!! The house has many unique features like: A sunken round soaking tub Propane fireplace Cathedral like windows and doors, 10 and 12 sided rooms with curved walls and beautiful wood throughout. 3 Decks with many different places to sit and contemplate You enter into a 12 sided living room with lots of windows and views of the water, trees and sky. In this room is the main bed which is a very comfortable pillow top QUEEN BED. Walk down the hallway to the toilet room, tub room and a galley kitchen which was built by the hobbit themselves...well not exactly but almost. The counter tops were built with live edge spalted alder and cherry wood. Copper sink, range, refrigerator and all the kitchen necessities for cooking a meal. The 2 story tower we will be replacing and repairing inside....for just Jan-Feb...2016..(rates reflect) ....but the rest of the house will be available. We are so happy to be here and love sharing this beauty with others. On Orcas; enjoy hiking (nearby Moran State Park has over 35 miles of trails) and the beaches & the south entrance of Turtleback mountain. Rent or launch your kayak or canoe from beaches or the lakes, swim in two amazing lakes or if you dare, the sound, great fishing and eating. Eastsound has many unique shops, outdoor concerts in the summer, farmers market and an excellent performing arts center. TA & PS Here is what people have been saying about their time at the hobbit house. It says it all: Being at a place like this makes you feel alive! I always wanted to live in a “ Swiss Family Robinson” home in the trees and this home is the closest I have come to it yet. Thank you for allowing us to share this interesting place! MAGICAL HOBBIT HOUSE...Unique, Peaceful, Beautiful Eastsound, Washington
Additional Location Information
The house is in a neighborhood on the north shore with a view of the water and Mount Baker. It is a very quiet beautiful setting amongst the trees and yet only 4 miles from the main town of Eastsound, 10 min. by car. You are the only ones there, so it is very private. There is a community beach down the street to explore or sit on the cliffs above looking out on the water. The neighborhood is very quiet, please respect the community by driving the speed limit, no loud radios or partying--this would not be that type of place for that. Thank you.

Spending time in the massive trees with a view of Puget sound in such a unique house was incredible. Just wanted to sit on the deck and enjoy. Never even considered if the TV worked, as enjoying the incredible views used all of our time. What a peaceful way to spend our 25th anniversary.

We enjoyed a unique, romantic, secluded, memory-making experience in this adorable "treehouse." Orcas Island is a quiet, relaxing island with fishing, whale watching, bicycling, hiking, delicious restaurants and gorgeous views. At night, we enjoyed grilling the salmon we caught on one of the treehouse decks and laying in bed looking up through the skylighted ceiling watching the stars and the forest. Heavenly! The tub is a little challenging to maneuver, but we've never seen one like it. Certainly a place we would revisit again to enjoy the comfort and uniqueness.

I have stayed at the Hobbit House on twice and coming back the second time really felt like coming home! It is both enchanting and cozy, creative and comforting. I really recommend this place to anyone needing a vacation and adventure. Suzanne and arthur are both amazing people as well who make the experience even more enjoyable.

We chose this unique house for its fairytale, rustic charm. It was such a delight to while away the hours inside the main living dome, or to soak in the deep Japanese tub, or lounge on the sun-dappled deck overlooking the beautiful water with a view of the magnificent, snow capped Mt. Baker in the background. We also enjoyed the nearby nature trail that leads to a breathtakingly beautiful secluded beach just a pleasant little walk from the house. My boyfriend is German and we were then in a long distance relationship--him in Germany, me in the Usa-- and we had not seen each other for 3 months; so you can imagine how lovely it was for us to forget all about the outside world and enjoy our much-longed-for reunion in the Hobbit House--a place where we felt completely adrift outside of time in such a quiet and secluded romantic setting. I will always remember this vacation in the Hobbit House fondly as the place where my sweet German man proposed to me. We are now, incidentally, living happily together in Munich, Germany and the date of our wedding is set for this September!

This house is located near a beautiful private cove/beach where in a 5 minute walk you can be on the water. We saw dolphin, seals and otters swimming near by and enjoyed a beautiful sun rise. This house is sheltered in majestic cedar trees and has a beautiful view.

This was perhaps our favorite rental house ever. It's beautiful and very different. Sort of like living in a fairy tale in the middle of the redwoods, facing the coast. There is a beautiful view of the water and a beach you can hike down to. Extremely quiet at almost the end of a dirt road.
Suzanne is wonderful and we felt taken care of. Can't recommend highly enough.

I stayed at the Hobbit House 3 times in 2012. "Magical" is the perfect word to describe it. A beautiful setting among the trees, with views of the ocean and Mt. Baker. Quiet, very clean, and comfortable. Its the perfect place to write, create art, rejuvenate, and just get away from it all. The neighborhood beach is stunning also. Highly recommended.
