Additional Location Information

Elie itself is a gorgeous little village, famous for its two-mile long crescent of golden sand and far-reaching views towards Bass Rock and the East Lothian coastline. The main street is home to a wonderful deli, a Michelin-starred restaurant, a great local pub and numerous gift shops, cafes and ice-cream parlours.

Beyond Elie lies the rest of the Neuk and the fishing villages of St Monans, Pittenweem, Anstruther and Crail. Though they all share a similar style of architecture, with whitewashed crow-stepped gables and red pan-tile roofs, each village has its own character, from bustling Anstruther (and reputedly Britain's best chippie) to picturesque Crail.

Then, of course, there is St Andrews. Only 20 minutes away along quiet back roads, this town is a masterpiece of learning, culture, history and, of course, golf. Here you'll find the Old Course, the R&A; and plenty of places to buy that new driver or cashmere sweater.

As a world-renowned university town, the constant influx of students and visitors from around the globe gives St Andrews a cosmopolitan air too, with smart bistros and restaurants, sharing the streets with funky coffee shops and cool bars.

The West Sands at St Andrews, backing onto the Old Course, is a long, long stretch of golden sand. Backed by dunes it's famous for the slow-mo running scene in Chariots of Fife, later so memorably spoofed by Mr Bean at the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.
