It was a beautiful weekend at the Watauga River Getaway in Elizabethton, TN!
It is right smack on the river which was so nice to hear in the evening over a relaxing
dinner after a busy day of taking in the sights and to lull us to sleep at night.
Beautifully misty on the deck built directly over the river for
early morning coffee as the mist soon gives way to lots of sunshine!
Although the website advertised the rental at 179.00 per night the booking agent had it at 249.00.
This was quickly taken care of and we were given the lower price per night.
We rented a pontoon boat at the nearby Lake Shore Resort on Watauga Lake. Breathtakingly gorgeous
nestled in the Tennessee appalachian Mountains. Clean, clear water. We also drove to nearby asheville
to do a little antiquing and take in the Fall foliage which was just starting to show, makes me want to go
back during it's peak.
Very comfortable and spacious, The River House truly felt like we were at home away from home.
What a great retreat from the everyday hustle and bustle. We will return to this special place for sure!!!
Thank you for your feedback! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay, and we would definitely love to have you back again in the future -- just let us know next time you're in the area! Cheers!

We were pleasantly surprised that the house was everything as advertised and more. We felt"at home" the minute we walked in the door with the lovely decorating and the thoughtfully added features so that both adults and kids have plenty to do with the games, books and TV, and the big game room downstairs with the pool table and Wii games on that TV.
Many tables, chairs and lounges made it wonderful for sitting outside on the deck for eating and enjoying the landscape with the view of the river. And we felt very secluded as the private dock with the house is right on the river, a great place to sit, relax and watch the river run by. It was fun to see the occasional men trout fishing and watch some rafters float by. It was a real feeling of "oneness" with nature with the huge trees, the river, and the river birds and fish.
Our stay was shorter than we would have liked, but we did visit the near-by national park and toured quaint Elizabethton with it's antique shops and ate at a great restaurant called the "Coffee House".
We've told the rest of our family about this place, and we're planning on a family reunion to hold there. It's a perfect spot for all ages, and I'm so glad we found it.
Thank you to the owners. You've done a great job to make it lovely, fun and welcoming. Although all the appliances, etc. worked just fine, it was appreciated to see posted the names and phone numbers for local contacts if anything had gone wrong.
Thank you for sharing such kind words about your experience at the home! We are so happy to hear that you had such a great stay, and we would certainly love to have you and your family back again soon. Cheers!

“Nice older home. Not really secluded.”

We just stayed for a week, with our four children. The home had plenty of room, but the description is misleading. A home is at the end of the drive, across the street, about 75 feet away, the view out the front door is of another house about 150 feet away. The back yard does have river frontage, which is peaceful. In the pictures, I noticed they included a view from the top of a mountain, must have driven down the road a few miles to get that view. We were able to use the kitchen, after the exterminator stopped by to spray for ants. We had to completely wash everything in the kitchen before we could use it. We were left to clean up the dead ants. Overall, we had a good time in the area, but just wanted readers to be aware of the misleading description.
