Description from owner

Description

High Ground Cottage is a magical place. High on the fell, with mountain views from every window, there are wonderful walks from the door (including one to a waterfall and one to a mountain lake) and only skylarks and sheep to listen to, far from traffic. Yet there are loads of great things to see and do nearby, from the little steam train that puffs its way to the coast, to the owl sanctuary at Muncaster Castle and the Cumbria Heavy Horses Centre. This is a less crowded part of the Lakes, but Lake District favourites like Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm are within easy reach. You're not far from beautiful sandy beaches either. The cottage itself is spacious, warm and stylish, with a big farmhouse kitchen at its heart and an open fire in one of two sitting rooms. Very well equipped, with Sky TV and wifi, the kids will be just as happy as you. And there's an extensive library of books and games.

(Please note that High Ground Cottage has a Friday changeover.)

Interaction with guest

You're completely private and the owners do not live on site. However we have a wonderful chap who lives a few miles away who looks after the cottage for us and who is always available to take your calls if you need help or information. There are great food shops in nearby Broughton-in-Furness, a little general stores 3 miles away, and Tesco delivers to the cottage.

Response from the owner Thanks so much for taking the time to review High Ground! I'm delighted you enjoyed the location and your stay so much. Just to reassure future guests, the nearest shop is either in Ulpha (a lovely old post office and stores) or the little Eskdale stores, both 3 miles away, while there are some fantastic food shops in Broughton about a 15 minute drive from the cottage where you can buy excellent local produce and groceries. There is a supermarket 25 minutes away in Millom, but Tesco will deliver to the cottage too. Booths in Ulverston is on your way and really good!
