“Disappointing Stay”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2022

Pros: On arriving at the lodge, the scenery is beautiful, and a beautiful setting. The lodge itself is lovely, an upside down lodge, with bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs, which in the very hot wea… More

Response from the owner We are inspected by Visit England who give us a 4 Star Gold Rating and gave us the Rose award for service excellence in 2019 which is awarded to only a few establishments across the country and can only be won once. Nothing has changed and the Lodge is prepared to the same standard every time. We do our utmost to address any problems and make sure our guests have a lovely stay at Cuckoo Ban Lodge. I am so sorry that Michael Steel and his party were unsatisfied and chose to give us a such a critical review after they left. We have had so many lovely guests who have left us wonderful reviews over the last 8 years, and this is the first bad review. It was a very hot week, which they clearly did not enjoy. We would have been very happy to supply fans if we had been asked. There is also a shaded veranda with lovely views to enjoy and great place to eat in the cool of the evening and is enjoyed by most of our guests. Why shut yourselves inside when there is so much to see and do in beautiful Rutland? I do advise guests to close the curtains when they are out on hot days in accordance with Which advice. The bedrooms are cool in summer and cosy in winter. The living room enjoys lovely southerly views over tree lined meadows through glass doors which open onto your own private sunny veranda. I am not sure how our quiet dinner party with old friends became the rowdy party in the review, but we did give Michael Child a full refund for that evening when he complained that his very early night had been disturbed, though they would have had much more disturbance on many of the local sites with several lodges and people enjoying themselves. Perhaps it was the contrast with the quiet of our valley most evenings, The Lodge is cleaned properly and in accordance with Covid 19 cleaning guidance the surfaces are sprayed with disinfectant and left hence the smearing on the surfaces. The welcome pack is left in the fridge and on this occasion unopened items left by the previous guests were left in the fridge as we thought the incoming guest would enjoy them. We will not do it again! The beds are good quality metal framed beds which enables us to clean properly underneath and as is the practice in many good hotels we join two single beds together to make a double and we supply two single quilts in common with continental practice. All consistent with our Visit England Four Star Gold rating. Thank you to all our wonderful guests who love Cuckoo Barn Lodge and give us great reviews.
