Luxury farmhouse in a central location

After meandering through leafy lanes into the sleepy village of Vilatan, you’ll discover the recently restored farmhouse of Campo Verde. In the charming interior of the house, open stone walls and solid wooden beams combine to create a traditional feel. With its tiled floors, stylish soft furnishings and homely finishing touches, this is a home that exudes comfort and quality to such an extent that guests are unlikely to want to leave. Outside terraced lawns add further to the appeal. Nestled in one corner of the garden is a steel framed gazebo which provides welcome shade - the perfect place to enjoy the rural views over afternoon tea. At one ...Read more

Additional Location Information

Campo Verde is the ideal location for those seeking the best of both worlds – rural tranquillity and urban amenities. Excellent road communications make it easy to explore all the major tourist areas in Galicia and Northern Portugal. The house is nestled in the rural village of Vilatan. There are two restaurants within walking distance. In the large village of Escairon, only 4km away, you’ll find most facilities and resources. The historic towns of Chantada and Monforte de Lemos are a short drive away at 12km and 18.5km respectively. The Roman-walled city of Lugo is 66km away and the medieval city of Santiago de Compostela, centre of pilgrimage, is just 100km away. At 112km you’ll find the monastery town of Verin. Vigo, europes largest fishing port, is 135km west and the coastal resort of Baiona is 153km away.To the North is the historic city of A Coruna where Drake was repelled. The Portuguese towns of Melgaco, Chaves and Valenca are at 105,135, and 141km respectively.

A RICH HISTORY: In the nearby village of Escairon you will find most local amenities; supermarkets, banks, restaurants, bars, post office, tourist information office. The village also boasts a municipal open-air swimming pool (open during the summer). The river beach at A Cova on the river Mino is a short car drive away. The area, Ribeira Sacrá, boasts many local fiestas. The nearby town of Monforte de Lemos offers a wider choice of services. Despite its appearance and size, Monforte is in fact a city. A title bestowed on the town in 1885 by King Alfonso XII. It’s most prominent features are the monastery of San Vicente do Pino and the Torre de Homenaxe, both perched high on a hill in the centre of the town dominating the surrounding area. Another building of historic interest is the convent of the Franciscanas Descalzas. Within the convent is the Nais Clarisas museum which contains some of the highest quality religious artifacts in the whole of Spain.

THINGS TO DO: Campo Verde is an excellent base from which to discover the charm of the Ribeira Sacrá. The area boasts one of the greatest concentrations of Romanesque Art in Spain. Take a leisurely cruise in one of the catamarans on the river Sil or Mino. On the other hand you could just lay back and enjoy the sun on a river beach, like that at A Cova. In addition to exploring the area by car we would also recommend that you take time out to do some walking and bird watching or enjoy a round of golf. If relaxation is your aim why not visit a thermal spa and let the hot sulphurous waters soothe away your aches and pains or simply relax in the warm Galician sunshine reading a book as time gently slips by. Whatever you choose to do Campo Verde is the perfect holiday retreat.

LOCAL WINE FIESTAS: Chantada - 2nd weekend in March, Sober - Weekend of Palm Sunday, Portomarin - Easter, Quiroga - Easter, Monforte de Lemos - 15 and 16 May, Ferreira de Panton - 1st weekend in June.
