The name Madonna (mia domina, meaning my lady) doesn't refer to the Mother of Jesus but to another lady, the wife of Messer (mio signore) Rinaldo degli Aldobrandini, and the full name of the piazza is Piazza Madonna degli Aldobrandini. Her first name was Giovanna (or Bugiazza). She was an Altoviti before entering the Aldobrandini family by marriage. She was rich, generous, intelligent, polite, good and particularly dedicated to charitable works. Giovanna was the signora (Madonna) per antonomasia of fourteenth century Florence. She died in 1395 after having lived over 90 years (a very old age in the era) leaving her fame to carry on her name.
The Aldobrandini are an Italian noble family from Florence, with close ties to the Vatican. Its Roman fortunes were made when Ippolito Aldobrandini became pope under the name Pope Clement VIII. He arranged the marriage that linked the Aldobrandini with the Roman family of Pamphili. Additionally, they were also linked to marriage alliances with the Farnese (Ranuccio I, duke of Parma, had married Margherita Aldobrandini) and Borghese (since Olimpia Aldobrandini married Paolo Borghese).
The Garvagh Madonna painted by Raphael about 1509-10, is the portray of Madonna degli Aldobrandini. In this work, the artist depicts the moment when the Christ child picks the carnation from John the Baptist's hand. The space between their hands is the centre of the careful geometry of the composition. The painting was in the possession of the Aldobrandini family, then in the 19th century it was in England, in the collection of Lord Garvagh. The background of the painting probably shows a landscape near to Rome.TripAdvisor property ID 2319111...Read more

I couldn't recommend this apartment more!! From the start Mariangela was amazing. She immediately responded to my emails and booking the apartment was incredibly easy. Throughout the months leading up to our visit we stayed in touch and confirmed that everything was ready. The apartment is incredibly close to the train station and very easy to find. The location was perfect! We walked everywhere (duomo/Ponte Vecchio) and there were great restaurants right on the street below. The apartment itself was incredible. We had an adult family of 5 and we had plenty of room. I slept on the sofa bed and it was the most comfy sofa bed ever! The only thing that could be a problem is that it was on the top floor so if you had a ton of luggage you may find it difficult getting everything up to the top but we were fine. If you want to call Florence home then stay here! Ill forever see this little apartment as my home there. Thank you Mariangela and Raffaella!
Graaaaazieeeeee Amanda!!!! :-)
I could not imagine a better review!!!!
I really wish you and your nice family all the best!!!!
Hugs and kisses
Mariangela and Raffealla :-)

We stayed in Mariangela's Melarancio Suite from May 17-20. Before we ever arrived, Mariangela was wonderful about answering all of our many, many questions. We arrived at 12:00 from Rome, and she met us at the apartment so we could drop off our luggage. Very convenient! We checked in later after sightseeing. Mariangela welcomed us with some delicious biscotti. The apartment was perfectly clean and ready for us when we checked in. As mentioned in previous reviews, it's on the top floor. This presented no problem for us, but there isn't an elevator if that's a problem for you. It was one of our favorite apartments during our trip! The kitchen was very well equipped. We ate in two of the three nights and got a recommendation for Rossopomodoro (for pasta and pizza) for the other night--delicious, great service, and welcoming! The beds and pillows were so comfortable, including on the sofa bed. I intend to ask where she got the mattresses and pillows as they were so fabulous! My daughter didn't feel well the last day of our trip, and Mariangela checked on her at the end of the day to see if there way anything we needed. I felt more like we were staying at a friend's place than renting! The apartment is very, very central. So close to the train station as well as San Lorenzo markets, the Medici Chapel (right across the square from the apartment), the Duomo cathedral, bell tower, baptistery, Palazzo Vecchio, and the Uffizi. We walked everywhere, no problem. As we were there on Friday and Saturday nights, there was noise from the cafe below. On Sunday, it was perfectly quiet. Even with that, we would stay again; it was so wonderful being so close to everything! We could go out for a bit, come back for lunch and a short rest (we were traveling with three children), and then hit the sights again. We had a wonderful time in Florence. As with all of the other cities we visited, we wished we had more time to explore. Beautiful city. Lovely hostess. We hope to return soon!

Great place to stay, we travel through most of Europe with the family and this was one of our favourite places, be it the accommodation or location.
Three small issues noisy at night and some better draps to stop the steet lights coming through eventhough their are shutters also if you have lots of luggage their are no lifts.
It's on the third floor typical of apartments in this area.
Otherwise great place .
