The name Madonna (mia domina, meaning my lady) doesn't refer to the Mother of Jesus but to another lady, the wife of Messer (mio signore) Rinaldo degli Aldobrandini, and the full name of the piazza is Piazza Madonna degli Aldobrandini. Her first name was Giovanna (or Bugiazza). She was an Altoviti before entering the Aldobrandini family by marriage. She was rich, generous, intelligent, polite, good and particularly dedicated to charitable works. Giovanna was the signora (Madonna) per antonomasia of fourteenth century Florence. She died in 1395 after having lived over 90 years (a very old age in the era) leaving her fame to carry on her name.
The Aldobrandini are an Italian noble family from Florence, with close ties to the Vatican. Its Roman fortunes were made when Ippolito Aldobrandini became pope under the name Pope Clement VIII. He arranged the marriage that linked the Aldobrandini with the Roman family of Pamphili. Additionally, they were also linked to marriage alliances with the Farnese (Ranuccio I, duke of Parma, had married Margherita Aldobrandini) and Borghese (since Olimpia Aldobrandini married Paolo Borghese).
The Garvagh Madonna painted by Raphael about 1509-10, is the portray of Madonna degli Aldobrandini. In this work, the artist depicts the moment when the Christ child picks the carnation from John the Baptist's hand. The space between their hands is the centre of the careful geometry of the composition. The painting was in the possession of the Aldobrandini family, then in the 19th century it was in England, in the collection of Lord Garvagh. The background of the painting probably shows a landscape near to Rome.

The flat was perfect for what we wanted - a good base for going out to see the extraordinary sights of Florence. Location can't be faulted. The flat itself was in a charming building, up lots of stairs but we didn't mind that, and the view over the rooftops was evocative. The flat was perfectly comfortable (pillows were not wonderful) and had everything we needed. It was clean and well equipped (no kettle, but that's a very British thing) - only 'complaint' was that it badly needed a coat of paint - general decor was shabby for the price. But this didn't worry us too much. Mariangela was charming and helpful.

The apartment was wonderful - sunny, clean and well maintained. Mariangela is a great host - she responded to all my emails and not longer than a day! The place is right on the square, and the double pane windows kept the noise out. She has the a/c already set and advised to just leave it as is. Just a warning, the unit is on the top floor in a very old building, so it's a very long walk up...no lift available.
Location is great! It is close to everything. We had a great time in Florence. Next time, we will stay longer. Thank you, Mariangela!
“Spacious, clean and bright. Wonderful location and great apartme”

Everything in this apartment was great. The host Mariiangela was waiting when we arrived and gave us full instructions on everything. Mariangela was always prompt in her communications with us, and arrived exactly on time on our departure date.
The rooms are bright and inviting. The living area is spacious and comfortable. Everything you could need in the kitchen to create some lovely meals, although with all the great restaurants and markets nearby, why bother?
The bed was large and provided a great nights rest.
Bathroom clean and plenty of hot water.
The location was excellent. We were in the apartment for 5 days and often popped home during the day to drop off packages. Florence is a city that is very easy to navigate. Walking distance to all the major sights.
We had a most memorable stay in this apartment. We cannot wait to return.
Thank you Mariangela.
“Bright, excellently located apartment in heart of Florence”

Just reviewing the place without adequately speaking of the owner is in my opinion not doing justice to the review. Mariangela who is the owner of amorino suite is a wonderful person. She had clear instructions, was helpful with suggestions, very cooperative and punctual. She is always connected and so getting a hold of her when you need to find out about something related to the apartment or otherwise had a 15-20 min average turnaround time. I had to contact her just once about the internet connectivity and she was super prompt.
The apartment is bright, airy, and at an amazing location. Very secure and neighbors in the building are friendly incase you ever bumped into them. However, its on the third floor and after walking around Florence it seemed like a hike back to the apartment each evening :)
I would recommend this place to anybody that wants to have a nice quiet vacation in the center of everything. I will definitely contact Mariangela again if I were in Florence and wherever else she may have accommodation.
