Cowboy Orchard is the perfect place to dust off your boots and hang your hat for a visit to Fredericksburg. Constructed like the historic Sunday Houses dotted throughout town, this cottage makes a wonderful getaway. The large living room is styled in a quintessential western fashion. Hiding beneath the cushy leather sofa, a hide-a-bed makes a place for extra folks. A mock fireplace (it’s not functional; it’s just for looks) creates a cozy atmosphere. Stained glass lamps illuminate the living room with soft glow.
Opening off of the living room, the wonderful sun porch, which doubles as a formal dining room is light-filled and airy. With views of the backyard, you’ll feel like you are outside, but with all of the comforts of indoors. The galley design kitchen is fully equipped for your cooking needs. The downstairs bath offers a tub with shower.
The master bedroom is located downstairs. Above the wooden and iron queen sized bed, a grapevine constructed deer mount gives you an animal-friendly version of a hunter’s prize. Echoing the western décor, enjoy artwork throughout the house by a local artist, G. Harvey. Also, take a look over of collection Texas trinkets including an arrowhead assortment.
A slightly steep staircase leads upstairs to a seafarer’s themed bedroom. A daybed with a floral designed comforter is cheerful and bright. A grouping of sailboat and oceanic collectables offer seaside touches. The upstairs bathroom has a tub (no shower).

The Cowboy Orchid is located on a quiet and shady block away from busy downtown. The front porch swing, the back patio, and the many fruit trees and herbs growing provide plenty of relaxing places to relax. Although the kitchen and downstairs bath are a little tight the cottage is large enough for two adults and three children or to invite friends to enjoy the large dinning room and outdoors.

We had a great time. We love to walk through the neighborhoods so this was perfect for us. It isn't particularly close too shopping, but that's fine with us.
We selected this place because it allowed pets.
“we didn't stay at cowboy orchard this time...this is for Wild Sa”

cowboy orchard was great last year when we were there. May 2012 we stayed at Wild sage barn and it was not great. the downstairs bedroom was not usable by us...it was too much like a cellar and the steps were too steep for a 70 year old woman to climb in the night. i tripped up the stairs in the day just because of how uneven their height is. One of us slept in the car due to the oder of the sheets. you need to tell people no shower.
also i made this request when i took the key back. the soap and fabric softeners that the mangers use to wash sheets and i was told there was a different manager for each property...but both cowboy orchard and wild sage barn use the same soap...do you know that the scents in laundry soaps and fabric softeners are one of the many carcinogens that are causing so much cancer in our country? they are dangerous. I am requesting that you ask your managers to use unscented laundry soaps and softeners. even bringing my own sheets doesn't do the trick because the smell is in the blankets and it permeates the room. Also the towels. we like to come twice a year but i will have to call and see if this can be handled or we won't be able to come again.

As new Texas residents, my husband and I took a trip to Fredericksburg to explore the area. We also took our chances and rented rather than stayed in a motel--a first for us. We chose the Cowboy Orchard with Gastehaus Schmidt. It was perfect! Secluded. Clean. Easy to find. The place even had character. If we return, I'd want the same place.
