Only a few blocks from the fabled Main Street, The Dovecote, a 1910’s Victorian home was restored by Stacey M. Smith and her parents in 1995. The current owners upgraded to include the downstairs part of the home as well as the upstairs suite.
This two bedroom, 2 bath home sleeps 7. Downstairs has a cozy living room with a 42” cable TV and queen sleeper sofa. The master bedroom offers a quiet retreat with a custom made queen wrought iron bed and connecting bathroom with walk-in shower. The kitchen has an island with a Jenn Air cooking stove, oven, and refrigerator. Coffee pot, tea kettle and microwave are available. It is stocked with cups, glasses, dishes and cutlery for 6. The table room comfortably seats six and views the backyard garden area.
From the front of the house you will find a secret suite amongst the trees. Follow your way along the rock path to the stairs south of the house, enjoy the cottage garden along the way. As you find your way up the stairs, you will find yourself perched with the pecan treetops. The suite is decorated with an eclectic pastel pallet. The sitting room is ample enough to afford a love seat and two chairs, and invites you to read, watch television, discuss the day’s adventure, or plan tomorrow’s foray. The love seat folds out into a twin bed. A unique cabinet houses a microwave, coffeemaker, and small refrigerator. Part of the cabinet was purchased locally, the base was composed by various scrap pieces salvaged from the home’s original restoration.
The bedroom invites a cozy atmosphere with the custom pillows and linens. Relax in the queen-size antique iron bed, passed down from Stacey’s grandmother to her mother to Stacey. Lamps on either side of the bed provide the perfect reading light. The bath is quite cheerful and the efficient shower complete with a generous sitting bench is very spacious. The upstairs suite is a relaxing attic space that offers a comfortable and quiet retreat after an active day exploring many of Fredericksburg’s attractions.
Enjoy a quiet evening outside sitting under the massive pecan trees.

An enchanting, cozy, and warm atmosphere that was a delight to return to each night. The home was stocked with fresh fruit, juices, coffees, teas, hot cereals, and best of all with what appeared to be homemade scones/muffins. They were fantastic. This really made the stay feel very special. We ate those muffins each day. The decor was eccentric while still being very comforting, and it created a warm atmosphere. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The beds were comfy and it felt overall like it could have been my own personal space, and not just another place to stay.

After receiving the keys, from Gastehaus office, we went to the B&B; only to find the a/c in upstairs room had not been turned on. We returned twice, but room hadn't cooled down. Stayed with friends until late that night and it was uncomfortable then (heat). Didn't stay the 2nd night and went back to fort worth. We've been staying at numerious B&B;'s for over 20 something years in your beautiful town and except for this experience, everything has always been very exciting. Safety Issue...the partial cobble stone walk from gate to stairs (through yard and around shrubs) is not lighted and is very unlevel. It's an accident looking to happen. I don't have our appointment book with me and can't remember the date, although it was this year.

We had stayed in the Dovecote several years ago, so this stay was familiar and pleasant. I do miss the sweet bread you use to leave on the table for breakfast, but, all in all, great stay and wonderful price. Look forward to staying with you again.
