This frame Victorian-style house was built in 1899. Originally, it was a three-room house with high beaded board walls and ceiling and beautiful pine floors. In time, other additions to the house were made including a kitchen, master bedroom and back porch. More recently modern conveniences have been added for comfort. The kitchen is fully furnished for you to use. Also, there are two complete baths, one having an antique footed tub and the other a shower. The home is beautifully decorated with sophistication and comfort.
Decorated in wonderful antiques and magnificent colors, the house is great for couples traveling together or simply a romantic haven. The living room offers an antique sofa boasting an array of pillows. A high back chair is combined with the sofa and both are placed to enjoy the television and VCR in the armoire. Adjacent to the living room is the dining room with its boldly painted walls, wonderful wood floors and elegant accents. A stylish table is set for guests to use or simply admire.
The master bedroom has a king size canopied wrought iron bed. Decorated with a stylish gold colored comforter and skirt, the bed is then topped with elegant pillows and framed with the same gold fabric. This room is impressive with it’s creativity in the wall border and large rug used to enhance the bed. A French dresser and mirror is found on one wall and a comfortable chair on the other. A second bedroom located in the front of the house offers a queen-size white iron bed topped with a comforter using blue accents to highlight the soft yellow walls. The living room and dining room separate the two bedrooms. Behind the fully equipped kitchen is an inviting sun porch. The colorful sofa (daybed) is accented by a white wicker table, chairs and rocker……plus a little garden cabinet complete with a birdhouse checkerboard. This sunny room is perfect for enjoying the outdoors.
Every detail of this home confirms the love and care that went into the decorating. There is a backyard patio outside the sun porch, which is covered with majestic shade trees. The house is located within two blocks of Main Street in the Historic District.

I was delighted with my stay at Nancy's Nest. The furnishings were charming and so cozy! The beds were so comfortable we felt right at home. Everything was fresh and clean, this is the only place I want to stay while in Fredericksburg! This is a great, clean place that I would highly recommend!
"Charming at first glance; Lack of cleanliness ruined the charm."

The furnishings and decor of the house are
interesting for the period displayed. However,
many of the items are so shopworn they need replaced.Huge disappointment was the dust, bug
carcasses, spider webs, etc.especially in the back bath. The place needs to be cleaned top to bottom thoroughly, including all of the beds & bedding. Location:good; Gastehaus service: good

My daughter developed a sinus infection from staying at this rental. The house was really dusty and has not had a good cleaning in a long time. It was ridiculous. I took a white towel and ran it around the chair rail in the bathroom and it came up black. I showed it to the person working at Gastehaus Schmidt when I checked out and they said that they just handled the money. She suggested that I contact the owner. I was unable to contact the owner as I had no contact information for the owner. There was contact information for the local manager which turned out to be a local cleaning service. They never returned my phone call. Imagine that. Ha-ha. I think that renters and the owners are getting ripped off. I could clean that rental better than the cleaning service and I am not even a good house cleaner. Between the cost of the rental for four nights over the Thanksgiving holiday and the cost of the doctor's bill and the prescription for antibiotics for my daughter's sinus infection, I was out about $1,000. I would not recommend this rental based on my experience. It needs a serious cleaning.

The enclosed sun porch had vines growing through the window cracks down the inside wall and they were covered in ants. Gastehaus Schmidt came over and sprayed the vines and left the dead ants all over the place. When asked why the vines were not removed, I was told "the owner likes them and thinks it is quaint". Yuck!

This is a wonderful house for 1 or 2 couples to stay in. There is plenty of room for everyone. The surroundigs are quite, but yet close enough to town to walk and have lots of fun. I have stayed at this home on 3 different occassions and have never been dissappointed.
