Opa's Barn (in German "Opa" means grandfather) is truly a delight. What was once an old frame barn is now a charming guest house. It's located only three miles from Fredericksburg in a peaceful country setting.
A front porch of stone welcomes you to the living room and kitchen. Everywhere you look are reminders of the past. A mirror, old fashioned lamp, shaving mirror, kitchen cabinet, china closet and the list goes on to include a wonderful collection of antique dishes you are welcome to use. Even the curtains are of lace from the past. This room is a pleasure for relaxing (the couch makes into a queen bed), having a cup of coffee and enjoying the scenery as you gaze out the window.
The upstairs bedroom features a queen-size bed with a lovely quilt. The colors on the quilt are carried into the hooked rugs and checked dust ruffle. Wonderful antique pictures, benches, and bedside tables remind you of Oma and Opa's house. The bath has an old fashioned footed tub (you can shower in it, too) and more antique shelves, mirror, and braided rugs enhance the floral wallpaper. Throughout the "Barn" natural wood is used for the ceilings and floors.
The modern-day Opa and Oma who renovated the "Barn" added a deck off the kitchen and the bedroom for guests to enjoy the outdoors with a view of the fields, oak trees, the nearby hills, deer and magnificent sunsets. A picnic table has been placed in the shade of oak trees. A nearly constant breeze is another pleasure to enjoy.

We had a wonderfully refreshing time at Opa's Barn! The peaceful back deck looks out over peaceful fields; a great spot for morning coffee. Just outside of town, it's close enough to be there quick but quiet enough for a secluded get-away.

We have stayed at Opa's Barn 2 times now and have Loved it both times! We have stayed at Christmas time both times and with the cottage decorated for Christmas it made for the perfect stay. The Host's are the nicest people and my kids were able to help with their Horses. We will be back hopefully this year!!

Lucille and Robert, property owners, are such a wonderful couple and have put so much thought and detail into this home. Every nook and crany has some piece of Lucille's family history in Fredericksburg, which dates back to the late 1840's. Homemade banana bread (best we've ever had), muffins, cookies and fresh fruit await you each morning. Opa's has a very comfortable at home feeling, it is clean as a whistle, and they make sure nothing is left undone right down to the charcol for the outside grill. Lucille and Robert make every effort to give you complete privacy but if you want to learn more of the family history, which we did by our fourth stay, they will gladly sit for a spell while drinking a glass of ice tea with you. There is so much "hustle and bustle" in everyone's life these days, since Opa's in outside of town it gives us a very calming escape. My husband and I spent our first three anniversaries at another location in Fredericksburg but could really only afford the weekend, Opa's is priced so reasonably that we can spend 2 extra days and still save a little money. We now spend every anniversary (5 to date) at Opa's, we missed last couple of years due to the birth of our son. We missed it terribly and will start our annual stay again this year. We live in a quite neighborhood in the suburbs, but there is nothing like sitting on the 2nd floor deck overlooking the beautiful hill country at sunset. I have recommended Opa's to friends, and they too have become repeat weekenders.
"Quaint, cozy, and well taken care of! Opa's barn is a Fredericks"

I stayed in Opa's Barn around Christmas, 2009. What a lovely, cozy getaway! It was chilly outside, and the freshly-baked banana bread and Christmas tree inside were a cozy reminder that we were well taken care of. Everything, down to the folds in the comforters, was pristine and neat (in true German style). We so enjoyed feeling at home there. Can't wait to come back again!
"We stay at Opa's Barn every time we go to Fredericksburg!"

My husband and I have stayed at Opa's Barn about a dozen times. It is always the cleanest B&B; we have ever stayed at. The owner leaves some of her personal baked goodies and the prettiest fruit I've ever seen. It is always so peaceful at the house and you can sit on the front porch and watch the deer and the Hummingbirds. I just wish they had a B&B; like this in every city we visit.

We have been coming to Opa's Barn since our children were little bitty. They are now busy teenagers, so our trip to Fredericksburg is even more a treat, as it gets more and more difficult to squeeze in family time. We absolutely love Opa's Barn because of its charm, beautiful country surroundings, and friendly hosts. Staying there is like stepping back in time and returning to a simpler era. It's the perfect place to come home to after a day in town or a morning of hiking on Enchanted Rock. Our time there each December is a tradition that we truly cherish!

The 'Barn' was cozy and comfortable. Brought back memories of days gone by. The cookies, treats and morning pastries and fruit were all excellent.
The location: perfect as it was only a short drive from town, yet definetly a country cottage atmosphere.
We are Oma and Opa and we have a real barn at our mini-farm for our milk cow, Molly. So, this was like home away from home. A relaxing place. A nice get-away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

This was our first stay at Opa's Barn and it was wonderful. We were greeted to cookies upon arrival and homemade banana bead another day.We never saw anyone on the property and it was very quiet and peaceful even though it is off the main highway, we never heard a thing! Great and convenient location. The furnishings are old fashioned and rustic bathtub just like one we purchased at rusticsinks.com I highly recommend Opa's barn. We will be back.
"This was a quiet, comfortable, two-story with a lot of historica"

Despite being nextdoor to a home, the stay was very quiet and private. There was a nice view from the 2nd-floor balcony-porch. There was a lot of historical reading material about the German family who owned the barn. It a very relaxing venue, nevertheless close to the little German town of Fredericksburg. There are a lot of little country roads nearby to explore as well as the historic country schools which have been preserved.

The house was a little hard to find since it is out-of-town and not well marked. Once we arrived though, it was very charming. The hosts had the refrigerator stocked with cold drinks, which was wonderful after a long drive. We came to see the wildflowers and the meadow in front of the house was full of beautiful flowers.
