The Red Barn is situated on a bluff on the west bank of the Gamenthaler Creek, which bisects the 45 acres of oaks and open land that make up the Pepper Ranch. The Red Barn was designed by your hosts and their builder, the award winning
, following the purchase of the land in 2004. The exterior is based on the part wood part stone barn at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg. The old wooden beams and red siding came from an early 19th Century barn shipped down from Wisconsin.
Guests will not want to leave this beautiful barn once they have enjoyed the wonderful decor and amenities. Inside are wood floors accenting the many fine features of the home itself. The dining room has an antique wood table seating up to eight people. An arched rock doorway leads to the spacious living room, which offers comfortable sofa and chairs...all placed to enjoy the wood fireplace and the TV complete with DVD. The unique furnishings and decor have been collected from all over the world. The large window in the living room is covered by a barn door on the outside, which is opened by rolling the door open. The views of the property are breathtaking. A small but complete kitchen (with all of the most up-to-date conveniences) is also found on this floor plus a washer and dryer for those long stays.
Follow the steps down to the master bedroom and enjoy the amenities this room offers. The queen bed faces French doors, entering onto the outside porch. A splashing tub can be filled during the summer months for relief from the hot summer days. Comfortable seating is found on the porch which your hosts say is a great spot to unwind and relax. The bathroom in the master bedroom has a tiled shower with jets.
Upstairs has two bedrooms that share a bath with a large glass shower. One of the bedroom has a bunk bed and full (double) bed and the second has a full bed (queen length). The tin on the ceiling upstairs is esthetic only making the upstairs offer a statement of originality and class
(When the upstairs is used and there are two people the price will include the extra bedroom cost).
Outside is absolutely charming, comfortable and cleverly appointed. The porch off of the master bedroom is only the beginning. Enjoy the outdoor shower, which offers both hot and cold water, or the fireplace and grill under the covered patio, or walk the land which goes from fence to fence. You are welcome to fish in the creek (bring your own equipment) on a throw back basis. The shed on the back of the property is your hosts storage room and is strictly off limits to guests.

Wow! What a great place to stay ib the area. We had such a wonderful time on the property with the walking in the pasture and seeing the fish in the stream. And it is so close to town and all the great things there. We hope to return soon!!!

My family stayed at Red Barn at Pepper Ranch to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. The home is beautiful, well appointed and has amazing views. The property is great for watching wildlife and exploring. The downstairs master bedroom is perfect for adults wanting privacy, while the bedrooms upstairs are very charming and spacious! The location is far enough out to have a real Texas hill country feel and close-in enough to be convenient. We loved it!

The location alone of this home is worth the price. Approached by a private drive through low, spacious woods, opening onto a view of the house on a rise across from a small brook, the entry feels like a step through time.
The house itself is beautifully, thoughtfully, thoroughly finished in every detail. From the window over the kitchen sink to the steps down and through the double doors to the master bedroom with en suite and french doors to the patio, to the two-story living space with gigantic picture window looking over the hill to the brook, to the firepit and picnic area under the arbor and the outdoor bath on the patio, to the charming and comfortable upstairs bedrooms and the glass shower in the upstairs bathroom (quite a thrill!), this house is one to return to for many a memorable family vacation.
Our family of six adults and one child were accommodated in comfort and luxury, made the more enjoyable in its simplicity, and will come again soon.

Great house, wonderful setting for our family retreat. I hope to return, just not during hunting season. While out walking the property, my family and I were approached by an angry deer hunter who explained there were several hunters stationed around the property and we could be in danger if we continued to interfere with their hunt. We promptly returned to inside the house and did not venture out much thereafter.

We absolutely loved the Red Barn! The rustic decor and solitude was wonderful! We adored the outside soaking tub and abundant wildlife. The outside shower was a great, unique touch that was used more than once. We highly recommend this place for a romantic get-away or any other occasion. I just hope all the dates aren't taken so we can go back and enjoy it again!!

Our family absolutely loved this bed & breakfast. It is perfect distance from town and plenty of beautiful land & creek to wander around on.The only thing that would make it better would be an additional queen bedroom downstairs.

The Red Barn at Pepper Ranch was a great place for all the girls to gather for a reunion. The home was wonderful, large, plenty of space, great kitchen for cooking a meal, and the patio with the fireplace was a great place to relax. The location was perfect only a few miles from town. The service was great, and the house has everything that you need for your stay.

The location gave us privacy without being too far from town. The house was beautifully decorated and had everything - from kitchen utensils to comfy beds - that we needed. Would absolutely stay there again.

The home and property were breathtaking! The kids played down in the stream and we enjoyed sitting on the spacious back porch watching them. We also made friends with the cute cat! The house was very clean and gorgeous inside. It was pricey, so this was probably a one time visit for us at this location.

Great location with a lot of deer and other wildlife for our kids to enjoy.
The house was very comfortable for the kids, parents and grandparents.
We've been to Fredricksbug many times over the last 18 years and this property was on of our favorites.
