Expect the unexpected. This inconspicuous barn houses a luxurious contemporary retreat from the hum-drum. A set of oversized mahogany entry doors mirror the faux barn doors on the opposite wall. The locally created king bed is topped with an array of vintage washed Italian sheets and quilts. Accented by an eclectic collection of industrial farm house objects and contemporary design elements, such as electric guitars and graphic art—Coyote is a fusion of imaginative expression. The sleek kitchenette offers a coffeemaker, microwave and fridge. A double sided fireplace can be enjoyed from the living area as well as from the whirlpool tub for two. The ultra luxurious bath is certainly something you’ll talk about all the way home. The whirlpool tub for two over looks the creek cliff. Inspired by the rustic Texas Hill Country, Paloma is anything but roughing it. The king sized iron bed is inspired by European antiques. Luxurious vintage washed Italian cotton sheets and quilts are simply dreamy. A pair of club chairs flank the pioneer inspired stone fireplace. Above the fireplace a giclee created by a talented Texan pulls together ranch traditions through an array of playful colors. Do not stay at double deer! We stayed in January 2013 and although it was lovely the owners were incredibly rude. We were startled awake with banging on the door at 8 am on a Sunday, accused of having extra guests in our cottage; impossible considering it was our quiet and romantic anniversary getaway. Not so romantic when snappy owners are banging on your door. After discussing it with the management company, there was no apology and no resolution what-so-ever. Our stay was very disappointing and a complete waste of money for one of the most expensive and well-appointed places in Fredericksburg. Read more
Although the concerns listed on this page are a gross exaggeration the homeowner and Gästehaus Schmidt feel bad that your morning sleep was interrupted.
Your arrival was on Friday with one car and what your neighbors heard your first evening together was loud and disturbing. After your hosts went to bed on Saturday night they noticed a car slowly driving forward, backing up, driving forward, like they didn’t know where they were going. The car went all over the property and even behind the host’s home. The next morning low and behold there were two cars at your cabin.
Worried about your safety Sunday morning the hosts knocked – not banged on your door to check on you. Yes, they were worried after they saw the “strange” different car driving all over their property late the night before. Please remember this is their property, and although they want to give their guests an awesome and exemplary experience, if they see something as obvious as one car the first night – then two cars the second night they get a little concerned for the safety of their guests. It might have been helpful if you had called them (you have their number) and alerted them that your husband bought another car. Problem solved!

I have stayed in Twig and Paloma at Double Deer Ranch and enjoyed both of them. They are luxurious with rustic touches and very comfortable. The country setting was pretty, peaceful and private. I enjoyed the high quality bed linens, bath towels and soaps. The outside seating areas are very nice. It is also fun to walk the road from the cabins over to see the Belted Galloways and two donkeys. A great time was shared by my husband and me at Double Deer Ranch!

Every detail in the design and decor of this "home" was intentional to welcome beauty and peace. The shower and tub are inviting - love the river rock floor to the shower! The location is great - peaceful and quiet but not too far from town. The bed is beautiful and comfortable.

We really enjoyed staying in the "Twig" cottage. It had just been finished on the inside (still some landscaping to be done on the outside). It was so nice and close to town. We will stay there next time we are in Fredricksburg.
