Linda Lyons and Gordon Davidson found this enchanting old riad about 10 years ago when they were house hunting in the medina. They were drawn to the charm and magical atmosphere of this old house which was looking rather unloved and neglected.
With a team of local craftsmen they set about renovating the riad to reflect both the culture and traditions of Morocco but also utilising the best of 21st century services and facilities.
They were fascinated to see this lovely house coming to life again before their eyes with so much of the work done still by hand. In fact, Linda often refers to the riad as her ‘handmade house’ with craftsmen painstaking carving marble and plaster using techniques from biblical times.
Linda and Gordon wanted to add a feeling of contemporary cool and style to the riad and decided this would make the ideal setting to showcase Gordon’s stunning contemporary art work, with many pieces having been influenced by the light, colours and vibrancy of Morocco.
Gordon works as a full time artist and regularly exhibits in New York, London and Marrakech. His work is in a range of public, private and corporate collections throughout the world.
Linda now spends most of her time in Marrakech and is delighted to share her insider knowledge with guests and loves sharing her experiences about life here.
