Cottage History: My grandparents, aunt and dad started coming to Twin Lakes in the 1930s by the train the ran along the south shore of the lake, and then by boat to the cottage they rented 6 cottages to the east. In the 40's they bought this property and turned an old garage into this cottage. My dad, 2 friends and I expanded it in 1972, and put it on a basement foundation in 1984. Dad says this is a little slice of heaven, but he's up there now, so my mom is the owner and we co-manage it from California.
My mom is well known for her work saving the California Condor, and I'm not well known for anything, but recently retired from an engineering career. We come back most every May to work on the property, and I hope of start enjoying it in the fall when we don't find a tenant.
We have a local property manager to manage the keys and do the post rental inspection. We have local yardman, handymen, and plumber for maintenance services, but you can call me anytime 24x7.
We aim to please our tenants and make personal accommodations so they will come back year after year. We've had renters every summer, and some year-round, since in about 1980. Most have returned for multiple years until they bought their own properties on the lake.
We cater to those like us who want a homey cottage in good, safe, clean condition in a natural setting. Those looking for upscale or pristine accommodations with big-screen TV, large microwave, fresh paint, new linens & spotless no-wear contemporary furnishings, or want a rural environment with paved walkways and sanitized of bugs and & poison ivy should look elsewhere.
The slide show is our sales pitch. The captions tell a story, and describe the cottage, the lake, and local area.
