A historic home on 900 acres, the Demory-Wortman House is the centerpiece of the working organic farm area of the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The original house, built in 1848, was a two-story log cabin that shows considerable German influence typical of the time period. Sometime around 1900 a major addition was added to the original log house and the logs were enclosed. The Demory-Wortman House has been nicely renovated and is outfitted with comfortable, rustic furnishings.
It also serves as a wonderful location for group events such as weddings, retreats, family vacations, educational seminars, etc. The house consists of 5 bedrooms, 2 meeting areas, a full kitchen, a full bathroom, 2 half bathrooms, and 2 living rooms. Enjoy the scenic views of the farm from the house grounds or one of the 1st floor porches or 2nd floor balcony/porch.
The Demory-Wortman House is the perfect getaway location due to its proximity to a vast array of recreational and educational opportunities. Visitors have walking access to the 10 miles of private trails on the Blue Ridge Center property, with unlimited wildlife viewing potential. The house is located 3 miles from historic Harpers Ferry, WV for visitors who want to tour the historic town, museums, and related civil war battlefields. A 20 minute drive brings visitors to downtown Leesburg, VA or Frederick, MD, where shopping and dining choices abound. A 10-minute drive to the train station puts the entire Washington D.C. train and metro system at your disposal. For outdoor enthusiasts, we're only 2+ miles from local recreational facilities that offer kayaking, rafting, fishing, tubing, mountain biking, and hiking options. The C&O biking/hiking trail can be accessed within 3 miles of the property. The Blue Ridge Center also joins the Appalachian Trail property for visitors who want to take a couple of days off from hiking. For pricing and rental details, please see our RENTAL APPLICATION.

Our group was most pleased to find such a spacious lodging in which to spend a long weekend playing bridge and going to the plays at the Contemporary American Theater Festival in Shepherdstown, WV. Two of our group also took advantage of hiking the various trails around the property. Being on an organic farm, we also had a daily opportunity to feed our scraps to the hogs penned nearby. All in all…
