The Casentino is the name of the upper valley of the Arno river. The same one passing under the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Firenze. In Summer many of Firenze inhabitants gather in close-by Casentino to relax and escape the heat of their city. The secluded situation of the Casentino until quite recently has kept this part of Tuscany free of mass tourism. For an outsider many of the people of this valley seem to be popping out of the Middle ages . Secluded as it has been for centuries, it is no wonder. What is wonderful is that the population is still tourist friendly. Here you will meet with the politeness, education and charm of old-time Italy. It’s a land of handicrafts of wrought-iron, wood, worked sandstone and wool material. The landscape is great, breathtaking.
