We moved to the Alentejo area of Portugal in 2010 having lived in New Zealand for 20 years. We chose this part of Portugal because we wanted to have space around us, fresh air and be in a beautiful, peaceful rural location with plenty of things to see and do. Portalegre and the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park give us all of this.

When we bought Quinta da Vila Maria the house was quite neglected and the land very overgrown but in spite of this we fell in love with the beautiful floor tiles and Art Deco elements in the house, the wonderful views, the adega and the vineyard but most of all the feeling of calm and peace that is everywhere. Having restored the house and tamed the land, we hope to welcome you to our home and share this wonderful part of Portugal with you.
