love the Hayward, Wisconsin area and I adore our unbelievably charming cabin, Runamuk Roost. Runamuk helps me recall the fond memories of my boyhood cabin. Warm summer days of swimming, fishing and swimming with grandpa and grandma, mom and dad, cousins, siblings, friends, etc. Campfire sing alongs, roasting marshmallows, and talking with family and friends around the fire. You know: the good old days.

Now that I am grown up I wanted to always keep that memory alive. That's why we bought Runamuk. It's the perfect design, on the perfect lot, in the perfect location, on the perfect lake.

Half vintage log cabin lodge and half-bungalow, our home, Runamuk Roost, was built in the early 1960s as a small hunting cabin. Because the original structure was so full of charm, as we added on and renovated, we built around Runamuk rather than simply tear it down and start over. Throughout we tried to maintain the underlying design and character of the property by matching things like stain, varnish, woodwork design, etc. We also tried to stay true to the vintage feel of the original Runamuk by using locally harvested wood and quarried stone, all hand-crafted by local tradesmen.

Inside Runamuk there are many special items. Some have been in our family for a long time while others have been acquired not so long ago but are themselves antiques or special. They include things such as a real “moose leg” lamp made from a moose my father-in-law shot. The animal pelts scattered around are from the local Hayward, Wisconsin area and the fish mounts are from those we pulled right out of the lake less than 200 yards from the living room.

I am proud to say that my wife, Joan, did the re-design of Runamuk as well as all the decorating. Suffice to say she is very talented. Runamuk was certainly one of her favorite projects to do.
