I am a 72 year old, semi-retired, married, Canadian designer/architect living 50/50 part time in Jamaica [15 years]. We especially encourage others, working in the arts, to come to our 'labour of love' project and share in its beauty. Jim's Place is most suited to D.I.Y. folks, who don't require the 5-star pampering which comes with a price. We are less interested in 'profit' from tourists, but rather to share what we have with others. My original concept, in 1998, was to create an "artists' retreat" where skills, interests and talents could be shared with Jamaicans and visitors to this special 'island in the sun'. We are now hoping to bring this vision into reality. Theatre, music, filmmaking, writing and crafts of all kinds are the focus... but rest and relaxation [away from the stresses of 'work' life] have become just as important. Time away. That is what seems to give the most value. But still - the internet connection, for me, is essential for keeping in touch with the world.
