We decided last minute to getaway to Galveston and booked the night before. It's no wonder this place was available. I cannot believe people get away with charging money for places like this. It is DUSTY, the mattresses are OLD, uncomfortable and stained (eew), one bunk bed had such a thin mattress it hurt. There is only one bathroom with a small short-person moldy shower and the other bathroom only has a small tub. And one of them doesn't lock. We had 12 people and it was a miserable stay. The fridge took forever to cool, even at it's coldest setting. The neck of the kitchen faucet was broken, so it would spin and not hold up. Small tube tv in the living area. Upstairs curtains have holes. We killed a coach roach. The bed spreads are stained. Did I mention the DUST? My mom was breaking out in rashes. You'd have to be desperate to rent this place and we were. Oh and I forgot to mention, the rental agreement required US to sweep and take out trash and strip the linens. Who knows the last time this place was ever really cleaned. Never again.

This rental is an updated home from before 1900, with plaques and character to remember. The area of town is close to many great restaurants, and within a mile of the pier, but the actual street we were on had sirens every night, and we wondered about our vehicle's safety. These concerns were probably overblown,as no damage or other issues arose.
The home needs a little repair ( pain cracking on the walls) but is very sound and bug free.
This home sleeps a bunch of people. So if all you need is a place to land, between events, this could be your place. The neighborhood is very bright at night, and the curtains are sheer, so you will have lots of light showing at night.
Thank you for the feedback! I am very pleased to hear you all had fun! I had maintenance check on the dryer and the vent was clogged with sand/ lint- thanks for letting us know! Closets- not much we can do about that in historic homes- they just didn't need them in the turn of the century. Hope to see you again!

I rented this vacation home for my daughter's birthday with her friends and overall it was a great stay! The house was very nice and in a central location where you would be able to get up and go to the beach, pleasure pier, etc. There was some minor fixes that needed to be fixed such as one of the bedroom doors and the washer/dryer machine doors. I would recommend this place to anyone, nice home it was!

I rented this property in 2012 and again in 2013. The garbage disposal did not work either time. The light over the stove did not work. The lamp in the living room did not work. The plaster damage at the bottom of the stairwell had not been repaired. The gate to the front patio had not been repaired. To make this a more enjoyable stay, some general maintenance should be performed on the property.
Thanks for the feedback! We checked the garbage disposal and it works great- it is new- the switch is under the sink which confuses some folks. Thanks for letting me know about the different lights out. The gate on the front has been a thorn in my side for as long as I've managed the home but we are either going to try a wheel underneath or just remove it. Again, I appreciate the feedback and when you come back next year, I'll show you where the disposal switch is... just kidding and thank you again! Billie Archuleta

“Gas Leak and other issues”

The house was nice and roomy, but the kitchen extremely small. Noticed a gas smell when checking the hot water heater to see why there was no hot water. After a couple of calls to management company, a couple of men showed up to fix it, but were unsuccessful and left saying they would report they couldn't fix it. No one else showed up to fix it. Ice maker didn't work. Curtains were nice during the day, but did nothing to shield the many security lights from neighboring properties.
“Great location, service and cleanliness very poor”

We were very excited for our second weekend of Mardi Gras. The location was fantastic but, for a house who's cleaning fee was equal to the rental it was not very clean. The upstairs bathroom cabinet and the floor to the right of it, was filthy. We found a water bottle from previous guests under a bed and we were not sure what was in the front closet.
The tv downstairs would not play. We called the rental agent and she said she would contact the owner but, we never received a return call nor was the problem remedied. I called and left a message for someone call me to discuss the problem with the TV and the issues with the cleanliness of the house. I never received a response.
We rented a different house for the previous weekend and had a very different experience. A little customer service would have gone a long way to making this rental experience more favorable. The service stopped when they got my money.

Overall, I thought the house was amazing. However, we had numerous issues with the washing machine, fridge and dryer. I was disappointed that these items did not work properly and were fixed the day before we had to leave. But other than that, our vacation was great.

Historic home with many original features. Transitional neighborhood ...semi-commercial but not unpleasant. In process of being fixed up. New paint, appliances. Close to the Strand, drive to the beach. Across from the Rosenberg library parking lot, but no overnight parking allowed there. Limited parking..three spots available. Nice furniture downstairs. One bed was most comfortable, others not so much. One upper bunk bed broke right away. May not have been put together properly since it was alleged to be new. Rated for 10-12 guests, but only hot water for 2 showers. Next door neighbor unpleasant at arrival. Unfairly blamed us for broken beer bottles on sidewalk next morning. TV wouldn't work (may have been cable out), but would play DVD's. A grill was promised, but was new and unassembled. NOTE: paper goods, garbage bags and soaps not promised. Most were available this trip. Save and buy before you go.
Probably best for in-town activities. Not for anyone with mobility issues...steep stairs. Limited outdoor space...brick patio out front.
