Paradiso is literally one step away from heaven. This small rustic country house is set on high grounds with magnificent views of the Sicilian countryside and the Iblean Mountains. On the one side it is within walking distance from a typical quiet rural village which has all amenities. On the other side it is seconds away from a huge forest with monumental pine trees.
This is a protected park which enjoys safe walking/rambling/cycling paths; picnic area; bbq area; animal reserve. Archaeological remains can be visited in the area. A lovely park for children to play in is found at the edge of the village.
The village is quaint, neat, well equipped with shops that provide all requirements. Health centre, bank, pharmacy, bread shop, mini-markets, green grocer shops, gelateria, restaurants, pizzeria, newspaper shop.... the perfect little Sicilian village is waiting to be discovered along with its honey seller, its torrone seller, the old churches and the ancient village at the very top of the hill with its panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
The location allows forest walks and rambling, scenic drives, visits to historic churches, archaeological sites....
Giarratana is set in the Iblean Hills in the south eastern tip of Sicily, 1710 feet above sea level. This is a beautiful small village which enjoys gorgeous Mediterranean weather that is warm in summer, with heat peaking in August and getting especially cold between December and February.
This village has a long history which dates back to Greek times and in fact the first name of the original village was Greek.
Giarratana has only 3000+ inhabitants The village is renown for the production of the Sicilian sweet Torrone and for the production of exceptionally large onions which are celebrated through the Sacra della Cipolla in mid August.
Mainly rural in character, the village is dedicated to St Bartholomew The Apostle and the religious feast is celebrated on 24 August.
The village is a short drive (approximately 30 minutes) away from the baroque town of Modica which is especially well known for its baroque character, its art, its coffee shops, its chocolate, its ice creams. It is one of the key towns in which the famous Montalbano TV series was filmed.
The closest airport is situated in Comiso which is just over 1 hours' drive away. Ryanair have just introduced direct flights from London, Rome and Brussels to this destination.
If you fly to the airport of Catania, you may reach Giarratana by driving in approximately 2 hours' drive.
If you fly to the airport of the island of Malta, you can book a Virtu Ferries ferry trip from Malta to the port of Pozzallo which is approximately 45 minutes' drive away from Giarratana.
