- Searching the shady forest for delicate flowering plants such as trilliums and bleeding hearts;

FALL & WINTER: By the second week of September the high country is aglow with the golds of mountain ash and the fiery reds and oranges from the leaves of blueberries and huckleberries. Summer activities carry over into fall and are joined by hunting and berry picking; a trip to the meadows at this time of year will provide sweet berries to nibble on during a trek or to take home for making pancakes, jams and pies. By late September and into October, the big leaf maples and cottonwoods in the lower North Fork valley are at their peak in color, making this an ideal time to enjoy a fall drive. Sometime in late October or early November, snow begins accumulating again in the higher elevations and a serene silence descends on the mountains.
By late November, winter has arrived. In addition to visiting the ski area, there are other wintertime activities to consider. These include snowshoeing and ski touring; snowmobiling; hikes along the river and its tributaries; eagle-watching; steelheading and more....Read more

This property is situated in a well maintained private subdivision that was excellent for relaxing strolls and exploring the nearby rapid stream and woods. The checking in/out process was easy. The house was very clean and well appointed. I loved cooking in the beautiful kitchen while my husband built a fire. The household decor was warm, welcoming, tasteful and suited to the area. After taking in artist Point, we enjoyed the hot tub and the outdoor fire area. We loved this area, with everything from incredible mountain hikes to short drives to Canada for whale watching. This homes is incredibly comfortable and very accommodating. It was exactly as advertised!

We had a wonderful time there with our son and his family who live in Seattle. The cabin was clean, comfortable, child friendly and offered more amenities than any place we have ever stayed. We have rented many sites over the years all over the U.S., and this by far has been the best. I can imagine how beautiful it must be in the winter. Again we thank you for use of your place.
Glad you enjoyed the cabin! I'll assume the one star rating was an error. Hope to see you back again this year!

This was my first time to Mount Baker and im so glad we choose to stay at Shuksan. My boyfriend constantly raves about Mt baker and for his 30th birthday I decided to invited some friends and celebrate it there. I had spent some time sreaching for the prefect place that met our needs. The shuksan went above and beyond. The house was simply gorgeous.It was decorated for the christmas season with a christmas tree and everything. One of the biggest perks was having a hot tub and a pool table!! We spent hours playing pool. There were only two small issues during our stay. The first one was that when we were there the temperature outside was extremely cold causing the water the overflowed from the hot tub to freeze instantly. My boyfriend had a really bad fall and hit his back on the corner of the step. It was an accident and no one is to blame but supplying salt or gravel that guests could use during the cold months would be a good idea. The Second issue we had was a housekeeping issue. One of my friends droped something and it happen to roll under the couch. Moving the couch out to retrieve the item We found lots of garbage under the couch. It looked as if it was not cleaned in a whole year. These to issues were minor and didnt by anymeans ruin our trip. The Shuskan has been recently taken over by new owners and we look forward to staying there again and seeing the changes they may have made. Bottom line is that if you are planning a trip to mt baker I hight recomment the Shuskan. Read more
Katrina, thanks for your feedback. Your comments are EXACTLY why we like getting feedback!
We've now added icemelt (salt) to the back patio near the hot tub (and in other areas too) to help prevent wintertime slips and falls as you described. We try our best to keep ice away from walkways, and we hope by making salt available to our guests they can take care of any ice that forms where they don't want it. As for the housekeeping issue, we've addressed making sure these "hidden" areas are cleaned as well on a regular basis, and have implemented a twice yearly "top to bottom" cleaning of the entire property.
Thanks for staying at The Shuksan and we hope to see you again!

We have stayed at the Skuksan 3 times now, and thoroughly enjoy it. We love the house and the well stocked kitchen. A lot of thought was put into the layout and making sure that the house is completely comfortable for 6 people. The hot tub is great too! And the beds are totally comfortable! All around great place to stay!

Our family has stayed in Glacier Wa and the Mt. Baker region many times and after our first stay at The Shuksan, I can say without hesitation it is the best place in the area. Very comfortable beds, relaxing living room, gourmet kitchen, nice patio with hottub etc. We especially loved the outdoor fire pit. Spotlessly clean and the owners were great to deal with.

You know how you always dream of Xmas in a warm chalet surrounded by family, far from the maddening crowds...well this is the place. Relaxing, beautifully furnished and complete with tree and decorations. Our family had a wonderful time and enjoyed playing pool and sitting in the hot tub. We hiked the trails and skied on Mt Baker. You are near everything but hidden away in your own little forest. Thanks for making our holiday magical.
