About Granbury

Sitting around 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Granbury can be found in Hood County, Texas. There's a definite vintage twist to this historic town which was formed in 1887 with the building of one log house and a court room. That became the town's first limestone-tiled town square, which today still sits beneath a 19th century clock tower and was the first such square to find itself listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The city was expanded in 1969 by the damming of the Brazos River and the formation of Lake Granbury. Flowing through the city, it has a man-made beach with 'real' imported sand at the Lakeside.

Granbury is famous for its cowboy association, especially Jesse James and David Crockett (whose descendants still live in the area today).

Culinary-wise Granbury, like most of Texas, celebrates BBQ: meat covered in molasses and served up with mash and greens.

What to do

Grab your date and some munchies then go and watch the movies 50s-style at the Brazos Drive-In Theater.

For the largest choice of draft beers in the whole of Central Texas, head on down to Hank’s. You'll be able to swig it while swaying along to some live music.

Take a stroll along the lakeside boardwalk and try out the open-air Tiki Huts on the beach at the Conference Center.

Check out the last resting places of some real-life cowboy heroes such as Jesse James and Ashley James (grandson of Davy) at the historical Granbury Cemetery. The town's namesake General Hiram B Granbury is also buried here following his death at the Battle of Franklin during the Civil War.
