This was our first time to Grand Cayman Island. We were very excited to go as a family for the first time to the Caribbean. We usually like to vacation at destinations that are not too “touristy” so we decided to stay away from the seven mile beach strip, since we heard that was very busy. We are so grateful that we found this wonderful townhome at Rum Point. Starboard Kai was very tastefully decorated, really clean and very well stocked. They even had a complimentary water cooler for us which were so helpful. They had three kayaks with life jackets, bikes (which we never got a chance to use), laundry in the unit (just make sure you bring your own HE laundry detergent), dvd player (I am not sure if we saw any dvds, but we hardly watched any TV since were had full days), coffee maker, spices, pool towels, beach toys. The only thing we needed was food, that’s how well stocked this place was. It was so nice to be right across from a Rum Point where our boys could play in the water, without worrying about waves. The location is superb, since you have the beach right in front of the condo and the beautiful bioluminescent bay in the back. It was so nice to lounge in the lanai and see the bay. From the living room and office you had nice views of the ocean of Rum Point. Many beautiful parrots, roosters and iguanas to see here, which was really neat! We did venture towards Seven mile beach and other areas of interest but wished we had just spent more time at our home base Starboard Kai. We checked out all the top beaches on the island and found our location to be #1. Janice the owner was a delight to work with; she really goes above and beyond to accommodate her guests. We also found Bob Wagner, the property manager very helpful as well. They truly excel in customer service and were very responsive to any issue we had. We loved going to the recommended restaurants. Loved our day at Sting Ray city, with Red Sail Sports which to sign up is right across the street and leaves from Rum Point’s pier. We really liked the blue iguana sanctuary nearby. We also have great memories of feeding the ‘Pirate’ Frigate birds at Tukka, a restaurant on the east end. Going to get sticky toffee pudding and seeing the Tarpons at Calypso Grill was fantastic as well. Would highly recommend this to others and have. When we got back we showed my friends and family and were amazed how beautiful everything was. Hoping to go back soon!

Thank-you so much for your very positive and informative review. We are so pleased to know that your family had a wonderful vacation in Grand Cayman and enjoyed staying in our home, Starboard Kai. We initially looked at homes in the Seven Mile Beach area but, like you, were drawn back to Rum Point and everything it has to offer, including peace and quiet when you need it. We truly appreciate you taking the time to write this review and hope that one day you plan a return visit to our little piece of paradise. Janice & Mike (owners - Starboard Kai)

“Paradise! Beautiful home, perfect location!”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your lovely home. It was the perfect location: near enough to exciting activities while still quiet, peaceful, and serene. Thank you for providing the kayaks. They were a source of many hours of delight as we paddled around the inlet by night observing the magical bio-luminescence. Rum Point beach, just steps away, was the perfect launch point for trips to Stingray City and coral reefs, and the ideal place to relax, enjoy a delicious meal and watch the magnificent sunsets with an evening beverage! We travelled throughout the island and engaged in the countless activities but it was always so nice to return to the lovely Starboard Kai at the end of the day. The amenities were top-notch! The remodeled kitchen and stainless steel appliances made cooking a joy, the beds were very comfortable, the living room was beautifully furnished. We enjoyed dining in the two story screened-in lanai and talking about the day's highlights. It was superior to the finest hotels! Grand Cayman is a great vacation destination, but your beautifully appointed home made our vacation truly memorable. It has everything for the island visitor and we look forward to returning to this paradise in the future!

“Simple pleasures in an amazing setting.”
Dear Janice and Mike We're writing this email to let you know how much we enjoyed our visit to Starboard Kai at the beginning of May. You have refurbished the house beautifully - you must be very proud of it. It certainly is very easy 'island living.' It was immaculately clean with high quality towels/linens. The wi-fi was fast and dependable. The master bed must be the most comfortable on Grand Cayman. Outside, the pool and grounds are conscientiously maintained to a high level. We loved the position of the house just across from Rum Point but we were never disturbed by noise from the road or 'over the road'. There are lots of things to keep you busy as have been detailed by the other reviews here. Our favourites were a) cycling down to Starfish Point each day for an early morning swim when there's no-one else about and b) taking a few steps across the road to the Rum Point Wreck Bar at around 6pm, buying a Rum Point Sunset (cocktail) and sitting in the peace and quiet watching the sun go down. Simple pleasures........ Your house manager Mitzie was off the island at the time of our visit but Sharon popped by on the first morning to see if we were OK. As it happened, just as she came by, we were struggling (and failing!) to pump up the rear tyres of both the bikes which had been left deflated by previous tenants. They needed more work on them than just the pump so Sharon took them away to have them fixed but managed to source two bikes for us from elsewhere. What wonderful service. Please pass on our thanks to her if you see her. Our week passed by very quickly with no further problems and we were sorry to leave. We would have no hesitation in recommending Starboard Kai to others. Helen and Chris (UK)

Helen and Chris, thank-you so much for taking the time to write and sharing your comments on your stay at Starboard Kai. As always, we are so pleased to hear from our guests and very happy that you had a great vacation. We are sorry that you had a problem with the bikes, but relieved to hear that our property manager was able to resolve this quickly and have you "on your way" to Starfish Point (one of our favourite outings as well). We do apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Thanks again for writing and we hope that you will stay at Starboard Kai again one day. Janice and Mike

We were so sorry to leave after a fabulous week here. Everything was perfect, including the location backing onto a quiet cove with the beautiful turquoise water of the ocean right outside the front door. We loved exploring the island's various beaches including Starfish Point with starfish galore. We also enjoyed many wonderful meals (excellent seafood everywhere you go) at some of the island's great restaurants including upstairs at Kaibo for fine dining and downstairs on the beach and under the stars for pizza and other more casual fare. Over the Edge was fun for its ocean-side location and it was lovely to be able to just walk across the road for the Monday Night Beach Buffet at Wreck Beach (not to mention the stunning sunsets every night) and then to try something a little more upscale at the Rum Point Restaurant near by. There was lots to do. We enjoyed kayaking including a night paddle into the cove to witness the amazing bioluminescence, biking, swimming, paddle boarding, snorkelling and walking the beaches. We also took a half-day excursion to the Botanic Gardens and saw lots of iguanas and gorgeous flowering plants. But the best part was coming back to the beautiful beach house, enjoying the breezes and the view from the two-storey screened in lanai and the wonderfully comfy beds. It was also lovely to have the option of cooking in the gourmet kitchen with its high-end appliances and cookware or just barbecuing outside the back door rather than going out to eat every night. One tip - be sure to pick up your groceries at one of the large food stores near the airport when you land as the there aren't many good food shopping options close to the house. We loved it here and will definitely be back!

Thank-you so much for your wonderful review Jan. We really do appreciate guests taking the time to do so and are happy to her that you enjoyed your vacation. You have provided other guests with great tips on things to do while visiting Cayman Kai area. And I agree, if possible, groceries should be purchased in town before heading out. We will welcome you back to Starboard Kai anytime! Janice & Mike

“All the luxury of a top end hotel with the comforts of being at”
My wife and I stayed at this beautiful condo for a week in January 2014 and it was simply wonderful. It's a luxurious semidetached home on the ocean with all the comforts of being at home plus the luxury of staying in a top end hotel. It's close to several restaurants and activities and anything you need is a stone's throw away. We relaxed by the pool, we snorkeled by the dock right near our place and had a blast! Starfish point is only a 5 minute drive from the house and it makes for a fun and relaxing day at the beach. We will definitely be going back, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a hassle free, safe and fantastic vacation

Thanks so much for the review Matthew & Melanie. It is always great to hear from our guests. The fact that you had a wonderful vacation at Starboard Kai makes it even more so! On a snowy and bitterly cold day, I am wishing I was there right now. We look forward to welcoming you back for a return visit in the future! Janice & Mike
“A beautiful home with all the amenities one could ask for a love”
I was fortunate enough to vacation here in January and enjoyed every minute of it. Everything has been done with exquisite taste. You will find it fully equipped with all your requirements other than groceries and drinks. Being a senior the proximity of the beach, pool and local restaurants was most attractive. For younger vacationers there would be the bikes, kayaks, lovely walking and all that Rum Point provides, not that there would not be seniors that would enjoy these also. The pool area is lovely and very quiet and the surrounding grounds are very well kept, even to removing the overhanging coconuts. Everything inside is brand new and wonderful to use even down to the can opener.I would recommend this rental for a truly wonderful vacation.
““lovely condo, ideal location””
We were in Starboard Kai #4. It had just been remodeled and everything was beautiful and of the highest quality. The condo was stocked with soap, dishwasher detergent and laundry detergent, which is not always the case when one rents a vacation condo. There are also bikes and kayaks to use. The beach is just steps away from the front door, and the screened porch in back, facing the cove, is a great place to relax. The pool is private and never crowded. Bob and Mitzie, the managers of the rentals, were so helpful and easy to work with. We thought we might have to stay an extra night because of a snow storm back home, and they worked to find a spot for us in another condo. Walter and the other guys at Red Sail sports were also super nice, helping us with the Stingray city tour, waverunner rental, and snorkel gear. This is a great place for a family vacation. You can alternate between eating out and cooking at home. There's wifi and cable for the kids. Plenty to do or just hang out and relax! Room Tip: There's no grocery store nearby, so stock up on your way in from the airport. Stayed December 2013, travelled with family
“Gorgeous interior matched by even more beautiful surroundings!”
We stayed at this condo in November 2013. The renovations had just been completed and the place is outstanding! The main floor kitchen is completely upgraded and the lanai provides a wonderful setting for early morning coffee overlooking the cove. The two bedrooms upstairs are large and each have great washrooms attached. The condo comes with multiple kayaks and bikes which we made use of everyday. Cycling to Starfish Point and kayaking around the cove were great ways to see all the beautfiul island has to offer. The condo pool is also a great place for an afternoon or evening dip. We really enjoyed the location of the condo - being steps from the action of Rum point was fantastic - the beach is pristine and a great place for some snorkeling. We walked down the beach to the end point and spent a lot of time there completely alone taking in the sun and scenary. Nearby there are maybe great restaurants - you must check out "Over the Edge" - we went 3 times in one week! The only downside is it is a little far from the night life in Seven Mile beach and Georgetown but there are many things to do at night at Kaibo bar or Rum Point. I would not hesitate to recommend this condo for a wonderful relaxing vacation with your family or friends - we are already booked in for another week next year.
