Corney House is a lovely house with a homely kitchen that has all the usual appliances. The lounge is really comfortable and was fantastic to relax in front of the fire with a drink after a long days walking! Bathroom is very luxurious and the bed was also extremely comfortable. The whole house is just perfect and we would certainly stay again. The pub which is 30 seconds walk is welcoming and serves a T bone steak to die for! Don't be put off by the distance to the lakes as the views on the drive are fantastic and a its a great way to enjoy the whole lake district.

On arrival the cottage was warm, clean and tidy. The kitchen and utility rooms were well equipped. Corney House is decorated to a high standard, but still has a lovely warm welcoming feel. Ideally located for many of the North Lake and Penrith attractions. Having the execellent village pub just across the road was a bonus. With visting in late September we didn't get the full benefit of the secluded garden, but could appreciate how lovely this would be on a warm sunny day. All in all an execellent holiday cottage and would definately consider visiting again.

Booked at short notice and had a wonderfull, peacefull stay and loved the log fire and free standing bath and plenty of chill out music around the house. Invited my sister and friend for the weekend and they had a brilliant time, also my dog Rocco enjoyed his stay. Tried to rebook for June but it was fully booked.

We had a lovely relaxing short break staying in Corney House in Great Salkeld.
Unfortunately when we arrived we had been given the wrong key pin to retrieve the house keys. We had just had a very long journey, it was pouring down with rain and we couldn't get a mobile signal, I know mistakes can happen and we did finally get signal and contact the owner but in future I think it is very important to give guests the correct number as it isn't a great start.
Then when we entered the house I decided to put the shopping away, the fridge was full of mould! I was disugusted and did not expect this standard of uncleanliness...The fridge and freezer had mould all over it I spent 20 minutes cleaning it and it could have done with more but I was fed up at this point and just kept all food in bags and containers in the fridge. The microwave was also dirty, we didn't use this, but it needs attention. It is a lovely house and I know with log fires/burners and the age of the house things cannot be perfect but a sweap of a duster is needed...top surfaces and skirting boards, the fridge, microwave and kitchen pots and utensils, we washed everything before use and did go to use the sandwich toaster but it again was dirty, we just put it back in the cupboard. Little things like these are disappointing.
One last thing, I thought there may have been a leak in the downstairs toilet but my boyfriend thought it was condensation?
I did report this to the Cottage company on our return suggesting they may like to check this? along with all the above and I heard nothing back from them, that was also very disappointing.
The good thing is we had a very nice relaxing stay and if they have had a thorough clean you will not regret staying here.
If it had been cleaner and the Cottage Company had bothered to contact me with my concerns then this would have rated much higher, I'm afraid I expect good customer service and high standards of cleanliness.
Thank you very much for your recent review of Corney House, Great Salkeld, Nr Penrith.
Your comments have now been investigated.
We must firstly apologise for not providing the correct key code for this property. For security reasons key codes are changed on a regular basis and unfortunately this particular booking had been received and confirmed before the code changes had been made.
We have discussed the cleanliness issues raised with the owners of the property. The property is used by the owners as their holiday home and is always cleaned and maintained to a very high standard. All previous feedback given directly to the owners has indicated that the property has been spotless. They ensure that the fridge is switched off between guests and the door is wedged open to prevent any possibility of mould or mildew growth. Unfortunately, if the door closed, then, as in all unused fridges and freezers, some mould may form.
The owners have recently stayed at this property and can confirm that there are no cleanliness issues or problems regarding leaking in the downstairs toilet.
We do advise guests as the time of booking, to contact the office immediately regarding any problems. This way we can ensure that any issues raised are rectified as soon as possible, leaving your holiday free for your to enjoy.
Unfortunately, in this instance, no complaints were received and we were unaware of any of the issues raised until the guests had departed.
This is a wonderful property and we want to make sure your holiday or short break is uninhibited. If you have any queries or concerns please contact us and we will be happy to address your questions.

This house is absolutely gorgeous and in a lovely rural area. Just what we needed for some time away with out pet dog and friends. The area is lovely for walks and there is a pub at the rear of the property, with good food and the people are really friendly and made us feel welcome. Wish we had booked it for longer than 3 nights. Our friends also loved the house. It was furnished beautifully and the house was very cosy, with its log fire and central heating also. It was like home from home. There is nothing that we didn't like and we would definitely stay there again.
Minimum stay and check-in day vary by time of the year.
All prices include all taxes, gas, electric and bed linen. Please check property description to see if towels, logs, coal and cots are included free of charge or at a supplement.
