Playa Hermosa villa

“Paradise...check” My family found paradise ...Playa Hermosa. A very quaint town not overly run with tourist attractions. This condo was amazing. It was clean and comfortable with many fantastic amenities. We grilled out during a big football game here in the states. We swam laps and splashed around in the clean and quiet pool just feet from the condo. We were able to capture beautiful sunsets from the second floor balcony. The property staff also gave us limes and bananas picked on site that morning. A few step from the condo gets you to the ocean where the waves are crashing and the monkeys are playing over head. The on-site managers were friendly, kind, and very helpful suggesting things to do and see. The area was very safe. We all agreed we will return!

“Absolutely amazing!” There was nothing we didn't love about this vacation! The condo was spacious, clean and had all the creature comforts of home. Wifi is always a huge plus when traveling out of the states and makes things so much easier for us to keep up with. The view is absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed massages on the patio not once but twice as it was so beautiful and the massage was so fantastic that we couldn't help ourselves! It is conveniently located and we easily traveled around to different beaches. We saw monkey's everyday on the way in to the complex, such a neat experience. The beach club is conveniently located right next to Father Roosters which quickly became our favorite hang out spot (Try a mint margarita! it's a must!) I would recommend this vacation rental for anyone looking to relax and enjoy the view or head out for adventures and come home to a safe, secure and clean place.

Eladio's Place-Explore Paradise-Palma Real cottage

Liberia cottage

“Paradise” We stayed in the 2 floor cabin with two bedrooms with our son's family and had a wonderful week! The hosts (Eladio and Vanessa)and staff make you feel like family! The gracias hostess brought out toys for the grandchildren and sent fruit from their trees for us to enjoy! We loved the pool which is very clean and does not have the bleach smell. As they talked with us by the pool we learned more of Guanacaste. The birds were absolutely beautiful. We saw: White-ringed Fly Catcher, humming birds, green parrots, Blue Crowned Motmot (which is usually only down in Cabo Blanco), Morning Doves, a Baltimore Orial, Blue Grey Tanger, and Bronze head Black Bird. We went to the Volcano (Vieja)one day but it was closed due to activity. So we walked down the the nearby falls. Absolutely gorgeous. Wear your bathing suit! Another day we went to a beach near Nicaragua but the water there was too cold due to the Humbult current - like the Gulf stream up North that warms the water, this stream cools the water. I recommend Colebra! It is only 30 minutes away and absolutely beautiful. Bring your bug spray though. Only the mattresses will make you want to go home. They were a little hard, but normal for the area.

“Beautiful home in lovely setting.” This home had all the amenities to make our family comfortable. We loved sitting on the patio in the morning watching hummingbirds and listening to howler monkeys in the distance. The extensive DVD collection was a hit with our kids during some of our down time. The location near the town of Nuevo arenal was nice for short trips to the grocery store and many restaurants.

THE RED SUNSET OF GUANACASTE, LODGING ABOVE THE REST AND A FRIEND IN THE AREA!!!

Nuevo Arenal villa

  • 6 bedrooms
  • 7 bathrooms
  • sleeps 19

“Wow! You'll love the Red Sunset!” Are you looking for a luxury guesthouse near Lake Arenal and Arenal Volcano? If so, look no further and book yourself into the Red Sunset. My husband and I, along with six friends, spent a week in March there. We are so glad we did! We found the accommodations to be everything they were advertised and more. The views are amazing and the house, pool house and grounds will give you plenty of opportunities to relax and explore. While the guesthouse is excellent, the very best feature is the owner/operator Patrick. Patrick met with us each day to help us plan activities and make reservations with the best tour operators. His local knowledge and recommendations were spot on each day, and his help was invaluable. The breakfast provided each morning was a highlight unto itself. Come prepared to eat well – you won’t be disappointed. We’ve never had meals of this quality at similar style lodgings. We also took advantage of the optional evening Chef services. While there were several great places to eat in the Lake Arenal area, all of which were recommended to us by Patrick, you won’t beat the meals prepared by Patrick and his wife. Our favorite was the Chicken Parmesan – sorry, Mom, but it was the best we’ve had anywhere! The Red Sunset was the perfect place for our Costa Rica vacation. We arrived as guests and soon felt like family. We’re glad we chose the Red Sunset!

Casa Margarita

Playa Samara villa

“Great villa and location” We had such a wonderful, relaxing stay at Casa Margarita. The villa is spacious and clean, with a great terraced outside area with beautiful views, and a nice pool for cooling down. Lounging after a day at the beach, looking out at the sunset over the Pacific (with a cocktail in hand) has to be one of life's great experiences! Pete and Maggie were very helpful in terms of advice and tips in advance of our trip out there. We went snorkelling, fishing, diving, went on the zip line tour, and spent lots of time on Samara and Carillo beaches (both quiet and beautiful). The wildlife was also a real highlight - particularly the monkeys and hummingbirds

“Beautiful private retreat, clean and simple with stunning mounta” I've stayed here several times, and each time have had a remarkably peaceful and comfortable experience. This is the real Costa Rica, in a prime location just above the Nosara River. As close to beaches and restaurants as you'd want to be (about 20 min.) yet in such a natural setting, this is where I go to renew myself. (Not sure if the owner mentions it, but it's on a gated private driveway with a carport, and the grounds are beautifully maintained).

“Beautiful condo, very friendly owners!!!” As we love to explore and participate on as many outdoor activities as possible, we needed to stay on a central location. This was perfect for us as arenal Volcano is within 1.5 hrs drive to the left and Monteverde within the same distance to the right. Liberia airport just about the same distance (all in all, very convenient for our purposes) note: as Costa Rica has so much to offer, 1.5 hrs is not an unusual drive if you want to experience as many activities and sites as you can) All the units are state of the art (wireless, fiber high-speed internet, kitchen appliances, etc) and with all the amenities of a very modern condo. The owners, Zen & Doreen were very nice and friendly and made us feel quite welcome. Thank you!!! :-) I have provided my e-mail address, in case anyone is interested in contacting me with any questions; I won't mind sharing and confirming all this information as I have nothing but great things to say about this place and their owners. All in all, a Great stay and will definitely stay here again next time while in Costa Rica. ~Manny (from Los angeles, Ca)

About Province of Guanacaste

More than 400 miles of beautiful rocky coastline and white sandy beaches, looked over by mountainous valleys and lush rainforests with stunning waterfalls and volcanic thermal waters. What more could you want from the Province of Guanacaste and its resplendent natural beauty?

Discover it all by booking your vacation rental on FlipKey, and enjoy the warm dry heat during Europe and North America's cold bitter winters.

About the Province of Guanacaste

Named after the Guanacaste Tree (also referred to as the Ear Pod Tree), the national tree of Costa Rica, Guanacaste has only just started thinking about tourism. But it doesn't show!

This area has a long history full of beef cattle ranchers and tree plantations…  it's really an agricultural area more than anything else. Sugar cane, cotton and rice remain big exports and prevents too much development within the province.

Other sections of Guanacaste Province are designated National Parks. There are, in fact, seven of them; the largest being Guanacaste, Santa Rosa and Rincón de la Vieja. Because of this, and the local agriculture, you'll find Guanacaste a quiet, peaceful and un-disrupted natural area.

However, if you're looking for the tourist hot spots, head to Papagayo, Conchal, Tamarindo, and El Coco. They're close to some of the most stunning beaches in the region!

What to do

Go surfing at Playa Avellana Beach near Tamarindo. Waves from the Pacific surf are big enough for experienced surfers, while guides are on-hand to teach beginners. Watch the top surfers while drinking cocktails at Lola's beachside bar and cafe.

Take a guided trek through the rainforest and along the beautiful light blue Celeste River in Tenorio Volcano National Park. The 7-km hike involves several uphill climbs but en route you'll encounter fascinating thermal springs and the gorgeous Rio Celeste Waterfall.

Visit Playa Conchal Beach, rated one of the top in Costa Rica (and there's plenty of competition). It gets its name from the fact the sand is comprised of crushed shells. The water here is stunning; changing from turquoise to green as you venture further out.

Catch a rodeo in Liberia. There's several throughout the year and a large event on July 25th when the province celebrates its independence from Nicaragua - it was over 200 years ago, but still a good reason for a party!

Top Guanacaste travel tips

The best time to visit is between November to April, when you're guaranteed very little rain.

There are daily flights direct to Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. The city is four hours’ drive from Puerto Rica's capital San Jose.

Local buses (many of which are former yellow US school buses) will pick up on main roads and other non-designated spots. Just let the driver know you want to get on.

Guanacaste is a little bit of paradise. It's a beautiful tropical location where you can hike, surf, watch wildlife and go sailing. You can even learn about the exotic flora and fauna of the wetlands and rainforests during your stay.

Amazing Ocean View Villa Papagayo
Million Dollar View from Infinity Pool & Condo!

Modern condo with all the amenities you'd expect including central a/c plus individual a/c units in all bedrooms. The living room and dining room overlook the expansive Culebra Bay, GORGEOUS! Steps away from the condo are the steps to the infinity pool. We enjoyed watching the sunset with a cocktail each evening, and early morning swims with coffee. We were the only ones using this pool, so it felt like it was ours exclusively. Beds were comfortable, kitchen well stocked with utensils plus had cooking basics like olive oil, spices, etc. Multiple grocery stores in nearby Playa Coco plus a great fresh fish stand. We enjoyed an easy day trip to the Buena Vista Lodge where for $85 kids rode horses to hike to a beautiful waterfall, then joined us in the hot springs pools, then we enjoyed a buffet lunch, and they were off to ride the waterslides and then 7 zip lines...all for $85 ($50 for us to have lunch and use the hot spring pools). The Two Leo Coffee Tour was only 20 minutes away, and the group enjoyed the 3 hour tour and participated in gathering the cherries, roasting the beans, working hand-powered machinery...and tasting lots of coffee! They had a blast! Beautiful beaches abound, our favorite being Cabuyal which was about 30 minutes away. The airport is only 20-30 minutes away, so this was a perfect spot to end our 3 week trip and enjoy the northern part of Guanacaste. We loved the condo and will return! Also, it is tucked away in a small residential area and has security gate, so you feel very safe all the time.see more
Very Private: La Casita, Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste
Nice

Was as advertised. Beautiful place, iguanas, squirrels and howler monkeys on the property. Darn monkeys howling at 4 am but loved it. Beach was fantastic. We were all alone on the property. Only thing I might have liked a little more contact with owners. We were a little unsure but figure it out. Thanks Linasee more

We stayed a week here and loved every minute of it. Barbara and Lawrence are very friendly and so very helpful. They helped us a great deal to get settled in with everything that we would need for a fabulous stress free vacation in Costa Rica. The location is handy to so many of the must see and do attractions of the area. We hope that we are able to visit again soon. Not only did we have a great vacation we made new friends. Westin Reserva Conchal - On the Golf Course - 2 bedrooms
Comfortable, convenient, laid back, all inclusive stay

We arrived and were greeted by smiling bell men, valet attendants, and check in staff. It's a beautiful facility from the entrance throughout the property. Myself, my husband, and adult son stayed in 2 separate but adjoining condos. One was a king, the other 2 queens which had a large well equipped kitchen. We never used it, as we chose the all inclusive package, but the refrigerator was nice to have. Because my husband is a lifetime SPG Platinum member it entitled the 2 of us to the upgraded all inclusive package which was a nice surprise. We upgraded our son so he could join us. The regular all inclusive package was more than adequate and would be ideal for families with younger children. The upgrade included the all adult pool, all adult restaurants for breakfast and lunch and priority dinner options. The condo was on the golf course and although we did not face the course it was in a nice location on the second (top) floor. There was an abundance of wildlife at the resort. The howler monkeys were present a majority of the time as well as their version of the raccoon in addition to the abundance of birds and iguana. There is transportation to take you from the condo to restaurants, pools, etc but we opted to walk a majority of the time. We always felt safe and (except the front desk which we only needed upon check in and check out) nothing is very far away. There is a good array of restaurants and food choices as well as 24 hour room service with the upgraded all inclusive. We travel extensively and many times the food can be described as "okay" but here there were a number of dining options that were diverse and the food was above board. We did not go to the evening shows. There is one bar open later but it is a crapshoot on whether it will be filled with families or adults. Prettier than most we've seen in Costa Rica the beach is adequate but it is public as most if not all beaches in CR are. They do have people who sell items and services as soon as you walk out of the resort and hit the beach but they were respectful when you told them no. We didn't spend much time on the beach and the time we did spend we walked down the beach, through a pass onto another much less populated beach and into a small town where you can find beach restaurants and small stores with souvenirs and basic convenience store items like drinks, clothes, and floats. It's an enjoyable walk. We were at Westin Playa Conchal for the week of Christmas but everything ran as usual. Unfortunately for the staff no days off, but the service remained stellar. The adult pool (Royal Beach Club) is the only one we used and it had excellent wait staff, bar tenders and attendants every day. I used the gym on a couple occasions throughout the week. It is a well equipped gym. One day it was packed, the next pretty empty so it varied. It has a nice view overlooking the golf course and a small pond. We had no real hiccups during our stay. Everything went very smoothly. The staff are professional and on top of things. This was a perfect choice for us for the holiday and the set up was ideal for both privacy and family time.see more
