A word about our town: Guanajuato is the ideal vacation spot for the visitor who wants to see the "real" Mexico. Though large enough to offer a wealth of museums, restaurants, and shopping, this historic colonial city is also small enough to be friendly and accessible to the first-time visitor. It's the perfect place to learn Spanish, too, either at the University of Guanajuato or at a number of independent language schools. The three-week International Cervantino Festival in October is the biggest and most important cultural festival in all of Latin America.
We'll say it again: You won't find a better deal on a one-bedroom vacation rental in central Guanajuato.(Much more information--about the apartment and about Guanajuato--is available on our website. Write to us for the link.)TripAdvisor property ID 2320491...Read more

The apartment was lovely - a sweet retreat from the center of town. I enjoyed the patio with a view of the garden and the wonderful colors, ceramics and other touches all around the rooms. I found it to be a perfectly beautiful, relaxing atmosphere & I loved having a full kitchen to cook in. Don & Gela keep the place well stocked and very clean, and I agree with the other guest that they were available without being intrusive. Don also had some good info about Spanish language schools. I had a wonderful stay.
On location, you should be aware this is not right in the heart of Gto; it's in a neighborhood outside the town center called La Presa. Perfect for me, as I found both walking & bus to be quite convenient and I liked the park nearby the house. But some students & younger folks may prefer to be closer to the action - convenient if you like to stay out late (nightlife doesn't get started until 10-11 pm, sometimes later). Took me ~18-20 mins to walk to the center of town; I'm in my 30s & relatively fit.
“Truly a bargain-priced, excellently located place of charm”

My husband and I, both active 70 year olds, found the Coulters' garden apartment just right for us and Don and Gela could not have been more helpful. We loved the walks into town and back and never needed public transportation as the weather was perfect. As in Camelot, it only rained at night. The kitchen and bath were small but completely adequate for our needs; however, stronger reading lights in the bedroom would be great improvements. Finally, unless guests plan to use public transportation - taxis or buses - they should be physically fit for walking. It is downhill all the way into town, but uphill most of the way back.
Thanks for your comments. We're glad you enjoyed your stay, but we'd like to amend what you've written about the walk to/from downtown. While about half of the 15-minute walk is gently downhill (going) or uphill (returning), the rest is perfectly flat. I myself, at age 61, enjoy this walk every day. As you mention, inexpensive taxis and buses are available for those who prefer to ride.
The bedside lighting is a fair criticism, and we've now installed new reading lamps on both sides of the bed. Thank you for calling this oversight to our attention.
We enjoyed your visit with us, and please let us know if we can serve you again.

We booked Don and Gela's appartement for 1 week in February and loved Guanajuato and where we stayed so much that we booked the following week. It is a very quiet location but still walkable to the center of town. The appartement is very attractive and very comfortable. Gela shared some recipes and the many herbs from her garden. We would definitely stay there again and probably will as Guanajuato is one of our favorite Mexican cities. Thank you Don and Gela.

The bedroom is a separate room with an door to the courtyard... directly across from the bedroom door is the door to the kitchenette and its adjoining bathroom. We stayed five nights and enjoyed being able to cook our own breakfast each morning. Staying in the La Presa neighborhood gave us a sense of being a part of the local scene. The owners were very friendly, but not intrusive, and twice we enjoyed walking with Don into town. If you are not up to the short walk home, the buses run regularly and are very clean and safe.
