Our family really enjoyed the Gillaroo House. We stay in a lot of vacation rentals and this is now one of our family's favorites. So Many houses we have stayed in were not clean even though the pictures looked ok on the website. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and overall freshness of this house. The wood floors are very nice, the kitchen is updated with a large table, master bed is comfortable with a large bathroom, and our kids really enjoyed the bunk beds. We also like to cook and found the kitchen well stocked with pots and pans.
We had a total of 6 people (3 adults, 3 kids) and it was the perfect size.
The location of the house is also convenient. It's right at the end of Guerneville and on the other side of the river. Many restaurants are nearby and the Safeway is no more than a 10 minute drive. Since it was right after Christmas and chilly we did not participate in any water activities, but it would be a great spot had we wanted to do so. We spent most of our time exploring the neighboring towns and beaches. There are quite a few vineyards close by as well. Kind of exciting to pass by Korbel without even knowing it!
I will only make one very small complaint. The large clock in the kitchen does not work and we all found it annoying to look at the same time constantly for 6 days. It would be really nice if it actually kept time!

although i haven't been to any other vacation homes along the russian river, the gillaroo house was great. the master bedroom was huge, other rooms was decent size. we had no problem sharing the 3 bathrooms within the 10 people we had in the house.
the kitchen wasn't "stocked" with pots and pans..it had few of them to use, and they were definitely old and worn out. plenty of dishes and glasses tho..and thank goodness for the dishwasher. it was also a plus that the cabinets had some spices/herbs, foil, and little things that might be useful in the kitchen.
some other cons: their toaster was broken, they didn't have enough paper towels to use..they supplied maybe 2 rolls, which isn't enough for the 3 days and 10 people we had in the house.
here's my biggie: the russian river vacation rental people had this whole list of things we were suppose to do before we left the house. strip the bedsheets off all beds, place dishes/glasses back, wipe counters, and start the first load of laundry?? we ended up actually cleaning up a whole lot (we weren't living like pigs in the first place) and felt paying the $150 cleaning fee was not justified.
we went in the middle of january, when prices are cheap and they had buy 2 nights get 3rd night free. weather was sunny but cold. not freezing, but not enough to go out in shorts and tshirt during the day.
Thanks for the comments! We appreciate the feedback now and when you are at the house. We stock the house with an initial batch of supplies (like TP and paper towel, dishwasher stuff and more) and then folks can get more if they need more during their stay. We have a 24 hour Safeway and a great little natural grocery here in town.
I believe the pots and pan have been replaced since your stay, but we'll double check - they certainly take a beating much faster than ours at home! And we ask guests to do certain things (like pull sheets off the beds and start a load of towels and wash dishes) to keep the cleaning cost as low as possible. It's always a trade off, but the majority of the cost for the cleaning is doing the laundry for 10 people and sanitizing the house between guests.
We're glad you were able to enjoy the 3rd night free!

The house was wonderful, clean and modern and well maintained. Kitchen appears very new, equipment and appliances are fantastic--we cooked dinner and two breakfast/brunches for seven people--and the layout is spacious and open to the living area, so cooking and eating can be a cooperative and social activity. The long dining table has bench seats along the sides, which are naturally not quite as comfortable as individual chairs with backs, a bit more rugged. But the couches in the adjacent living area are spacious and comfortable, and conversation can extend between both. Bedrooms, beds, and baths were likewise modern, comfortable, and well maintained.
Thank you for leaving a review of Gillaroo House! Everything in the kitchen is brand spanking new - and all the floors on the first level of the house. The owners have done a great job with this house... We know it's hard to seat 10 people all at one table, so the benches are easier, but we agree that the living room is very comfy. I hope we'll see you again!

we had a great time, house was perfect. here is what I would change:
1. rug downstairs was filthy. Needs a shampooing very badly.
2. cleaning cost was too high, out of line with expectations and market, especially considering # 1 above
3.either change the battery on the huge clock or remove it
4. we will probably stay at a less expensive home next time, this place was nice but a bit pricey and was not very special, but very well appointed with practical conveniences. Perhaps at $400/night with a lower cleaning cost, we may go back.
Thank you for leaving a review... We're glad you enjoyed your stay with a short list of exceptions. A couple notes... The entire downstairs floor is about to be replaced, including the carpet. We've had the carpets at Gillaroo House professionally cleaned, but the carpet shows everything! While this work is being done, the house will be off the market for a couple to few months!
And we'll have the battery changed in the up high clock the next time the window washer is there with the super tall extension ladder! For 10 people we think Gillaroo House is still the most reasonable home on the river without everyone sleeping in double bunks!
