This is a real cottage that borders George Washington National Forest and is ideal for walking to hiking trails, trout fishing and other activities in the national forest. There are two streams/rivers that meet about a 5 minute walk from the cottage. This cottage is located within walking distance of all of our other cabins here in Rawley Springs. The other properties on the road this cottage is located on are not fixed up yet they all need some work (some more than others). The cabin right door to this cottage is in very bad shape (cosmetically). We own it and plan to remodel it as soon as we can. There is another cabin on the other side of this cottage that has full time residents living there.
This is not by any means newer construction like many other vacation rentals. But we believe that the cottage has lots character. This cottage is not for everyone. If you are easy going and are looking for an inexpensive place to stay close to the trails, rivers and other adventures that the national forest offers, then you'll love it here. You are renting a cottage that is about 75 years old and has 2 bedrooms (master bedroom has a queen bed and the other is a full size) and 1 bathroom (sink, shower, and toilet). The cottage has a stone exterior and wooden steps leading to the back door (which is you enter the house currently). The kitchen has a stove, toaster, microwave and refrigerator. The cottage has been newly painted, but has not been remodeled or updated yet. The kitchen and bathroom, while fully functional are very out of date. The kitchen was probably last updated in the late 1970's. The stove and the sink are not placed in the most convenient places either (right in front of one another). The bathroom which has not been updated at all, has an older stand-up shower, small sink and toilet.
The cottage does have original hardwood floors and nice old real plaster walls. We've just updated the ceiling fans (one in each room) and the lighting as well. There is an unfinished basement, which we use for storage currently.
The neighbors do have two dogs that bark sometimes, but barking is the only issue with them (other than shoe stealing). The one neighbor (a very nice older man) does shoot with his small rifle in the back yard at a target on occasion. We just want all of our guests here to know what to expect before they arrive. The photos actually make the cottage look nicer than it is in my opinion.... that is why we've chosen to write such a detailed description on here.
It is still a nice place (quiet most of the time) to get away and enjoy the woods and the national forest. Harrisonburg is a short 12 minute drive from the cottage.
Pets are welcome at all of our properties. There is a pet fee of up to $59 if you are bringing pets with you. If you or someone in your group is allergic to pets or anything else (detergent, air fresheners, etc), please let us know in advance so we can discuss this prior to your booking and then also prior to your arrival. This is an older property with a basement so let us know if you have any allergies....Read more

We were in the area for work reasons, so regrettably our stay was short. The area is a picturesque forest area with little cabins scattered around. Stone ridge was quaint but comfortable and would make an great place to spend a few days relaxing. The place was clean, bed was excellent, and the kitchen had a good selection of utensils needed for "living it". I understand that Stone Ridge is a recent acquisition and we would enjoy staying in one of the cottages that have been even more renovated in the future. Great place for those who love the mountains.
