“Just Incredible...” Couldn't be happier with this accommodation! To start off the villa was in a great location (about 10 minutes drive from the main town), which was not a problem at all and was actually nice to be away from such a busy environment. A driver from the villa can be organised for a small cost which was very convenient when we didn't want to get the public bus. It was so nice to be staying right on the beach - and when you didn't want to swim in the beach we had our own private pool. The villas were extremely spacious with big beautiful bathrooms and very comfortable beds. The staff accommodated a few extras we had staying but we were all still very comfortable. Udith the Villa manager was extremely friendly and helpful, catering to our every need. It was always very nice to wake up and have a morning chat with Udith as he was always smiling and in such great spirits. The rest of the staff were also amazing! Always so friendly and accommodating. Couldn't have asked for better people to be surrounded by. The in house chefs provide excellent food - our groups favourite being the chicken sandwiches. It is nice to be able to order whatever food you want at any time. We were supposed to stay only 5 nights, but extended because we didnt want to leave. Would definitely recommend these villa's. Great for a group of friends or a big family looking for a relaxing get away and a great time!

“A truly awesome experience, and did I mention the VIEW..” Travelled to the Beach House, and arrived late at night. Woke in the morning to the most spectacular view, and sound of the ocean roaring. Took a few days to get used to the experience, (creepy crawly's) but by day 3, the family were loving it. To let my young boys play on the beach and next door at the Hotel with no hesitation, shows how safe and free we felt. Day trips in Tuk Tuks, were fun and so much to see nearby. Location of the Beach House in Hikkaduwa was very central, and food very very cheap. Having a Hotel next door that delivers breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, etc, made life easy for the wife..(Hotel also has free Wifi) The holiday, bonded the family, and left us with great memories. We hope to visit again one day soon..

“Fabulous” We were lucky and enjoyed this wonderful oasis of luxury and calm for 16 nights in February 14. The villa itself is well appointed and has everything you could possibly want or need but it is the garden, pool and service that makes this place so special. The views from the garden especially down by the pool and pavilion are fantastic with rice paddy, buffalo, egrets and a myriad of other tropical birds. You feel a million miles away from everything as you are surrounded by swaying palm trees and other tropical plants and flowers. We enjoyed the charming 10 minute walk to the enormous, clean beach that is also fringed by Palm trees and little restaurants, and if you want a bit more nightlife Hikkaduwa is only a short Tuk Tuk ride away. The best food we ate was prepared by Roshan and the team who are always on hand to cook or assist you in any way, even stocking the fridge up with your favourite drinks and preparing the most delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts. We had a couple of barbecues down by the pool which were lovely and very good value. The staff make your stay comfortable without being intrusive and are happy to arrange motorbike hire, meals, Tuk Tuk rides and excursions which takes any stress out of arranging things, they are a really nice, friendly group of young men, who you feel completely safe and comfortable with. We have visited Sri Lanka on numerous occasions and this is definitely our favourite place to stay to date. Tam is so easy to deal with too when booking, which also makes life much easier.

“Stunning, you are left wanting for nothing except more of the sa” A fabulous week, just what we needed. A great team looked after our every need. We especially enjoyed paddling down the lake for dinner, to be the only guests at the restaurant, and then paddling back. Stunning home away from home, allowing quality family time. Will definitely return, thank you.

About Hikkaduwa

Hikkaduwa has been a tourist hotspot since the 1970s. And with its golden beaches, blue waters and plenty of places to explore, we can see why!

Set up camp in one of FlipKey's seafront apartments, and make this the vacation of a lifetime.

About Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka

Found on Sri Lanka's south coast, this little town is known for its surfing, tourism and active nightlife.

Though it was affected by the 2004 tsunami, it’s come back fighting and is a beautiful destination to visit. If you're interested in this part of the town's history, head to the Community Tsunami Museum to find out more.

The area is more than just a pretty beach—there are plenty of places of religious and historical interest, too. At low tide, you can walk out to a small island that houses the Seenigama Muhudu Viharaya temple—a site definitely worth seeing.

The entire region of Hikkaduwa is a conservation area. The marine park was declared a national park in 2002, and there are several coral and turtle sanctuaries in the area. Hopefully, this means that Hikkaduwa will remain a top tourist spot for years to come.

What to do in Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka

One of the best things to do in Hikkaduwa is go to the beach. The hot golden sand is washed by the cool waters and provides a perfect backdrop for your vacation.

For nature lovers, head to the turtle hatcheries and see what locals are doing to ensure the survival of these beautiful creatures.

If you want to know a bit more about the local culture, visit the Tsunami Honganji Vihara—an 18-meter-high statue of Buddha that faces out to sea to ward off future Tsunamis. It's an extremely powerful and emotive place.

For a more lighthearted adventure, visit the Natural Moonstone Mine and create your own jewelry while you're there. These act as great souvenirs, and you'll learn a lot too!

Top travel tips for Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka

To get to Hikkaduwa, just jump on the Coastal or Southern Rail Line. Or, you can drive down the A2 highway. Everything's in walking distance, so don't worry about renting a car.

The town has lots of tailors who’ll make custom clothes just for you. Support local businesses and get a brand-new outfit while you're there.

Board-surfers also love it here. So why not give it a go during your stay?

Though some say it has lost some of its original charm, Hikkaduwa is still the perfect spot for a relaxing beach vacation. Simply find your rental property on FlipKey and get your trip off to a great start.

Sunset Reef
A little piece of Heaven

We are just back from a wonderful family holiday in Sunset Reef Villa. The Villa, with its huge comfortable beds and fantastic drench showers compliments the beautiful location. Udith the manager and all the staff were fantastic, so kind, knowledgeable and attentive. Upul our driver took us on some amazing trips, so helpful and always delighted to show us everything about his country (so much to see and do). We enjoyed the excellent food especially the Sri Lankan dishes (compliments to the Chefs) served to us by Bongala who attended to our every need. The party that Udith arranged for our sons 16th birthday was brilliant, the BBQ, bonfire, fireworks, music and birthday cake; we all had a great night. We have so many wonderful memories and photos of a fantastic family holiday, what a wonderful country and beautiful people. Back to reality now but looking forward to our next visit to Sunset Reef Villa which we hope wont be too long. We would highly recommend Sunset Reef Villa.see more
Samaya Holiday Home
The most friendly owner ever.

We've stayed at the place for about six weeks in December, 2013 - January, 2014. The location is pretty good though not the front line. It is about 500 meters from the swimming beaches, restaurants and shops. This is a four bedrooms place for seven people with a separate living and dining rooms and a kitchen. There are three twin-bed bedrooms on the ground floor and one single-bed bedrrom on the first. There is also a pretty large balcony with a nice garden view (not fully finished yet but is ready to hold six-persons dinner-parties on it which we used to hold sometimes). The house is fully equiped with fridge, washing machine, gas-stove, grill-owen, sandwich toaster, electric kettle and a steamer. There are all needed kitchen utensils. A bathroom is very good and greatly differs from everything what I've seen in Sri Lanka's private houses - there are two showers (a cold tropical and a one with hot water) and everything looks clean and shining. There is no airconditioner (this is common for the majority of Sri Lanka's houses) but there are ceiling fans in bedrooms and in living room. The price is more than reasonable and is lower than prices that were proposed by more "tourist-oriented" owners. I don't think there is something that is close to it by value for money. Finally, I absolutely can't finish the story without telling about owners of this property. The house is really great but it hardly could make me write this detailed review if it wasn't operated by such great people. Hasini (she is the daughter of the owner and speaks english pretty good) and her family are great, kind and modest people who always try to do their best to make your stay comfortable. They are the perfect example of Sri Lankan people kindness and greatly differ from the cheaters that you sometimes can face in tourist places. All our friends who came to us said that we were lucky to have rented such a place. And we absolutely agree with them. Have a pleasent stay here.see more
Phoenix Retreat, Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka
Wonderful rest and location

Due to circumstances, our usual preference for independent traveling changed; we needed peaceful, well serviced, comfortable, self-catering facilities with good access for taking trips of 1-5 days away from base. The Retreat far exceeded these needs. 'Well serviced' included (i) the daily property and pool maintenance by Prem plus the option to sit fishing with him on the jetty as the sun went down, (ii) paying extra for his wife, Sunitha, to cook one or all of our meals, learning her recipes and techniques plus joining her on the shopping for fruit and vegetable (all highly recommended), (iii) the services of Hikka Surf for anything ranging from the 5day/4night trip to Sigyria and up north to tuk-tuks for local shopping and trips. 'Comfortable?': luxurious is more appropriate for all three en-suite bedrooms, the spacious living spaces and outdoor areas; the pool is excellent. 'Self-catering': although we chose to use Sunitha's talents for breakfasts and evening meals, from which there was ample 'left-overs' for lunches, the facilities and equipment to self cater are equally as good, if not better, than many 'well-serviced, comfortable self-catering' facilities we have stayed in elsewhere. 'Peaceful?': definitely, although you either love or hate the twice daily jingle of the bakery tuk-tuk as it wends its way around the lanes on that part of the lagoon! Hikkaduwa is definitely a younger person's area but we 'oldies' (late 60's) did not feels out of place. The town has a nice 'buzz' about it, having regained its vibrancy after the losses it suffered in the Boxing Day tsunami. We both enjoy wildlife and bird-watching so were delighted with a 'garden tally' of 26 birds species plus water monitors and the ever playful palm squirrels on top of many other species, including well over 100 different birds, spotted on our various trips. We had an excellent 3 weeks holiday and The Retreat just made the whole experience special.see more
3 bedroom villa with swimming pool in Hikkaduwa
Wonderful villa and area

We had a fantastic stay in Tam's villa where we stayed for one month. The house and garden are lovely and well kept, full of wild animals, including monkeys and monitor lizards. The kids had a wonderful time in Hikkaduwa and its coral reef, just minutes from the house by tuktuk or car. The house staff is very friendly and helpful, we had a minor car accident and Roshan was invaluable in making sure we would not get ripped off by the insurance company or car rental company. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet and green spot, away from but yet close enough to the hustle and bustle of Hikkaduwa.see more
Tropical Beach House Hikkaduwa. Perfect Location!
Great beach holiday

We stayed at the beach house for 6 nights and enjoyed it thorougly. The location is perfect and you can't beat the view. Being right on the beach it was great waking up to the sound of waves breaking. Although in a quiet part of town, it's only 10 - 15 minute walk to the restuarants and shops or a short tuk-tuk run. The house is clean, well maintained and have everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. A great place to stay in Hikkaduwa.see more
Blue Peacock beach house, Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka
Very Chilled Beach House

We needed a cool spot for a mini family reunion and The Beach House was the perfect place. Superbly located about 2Kms outside of Hikkaduwa; far enough away from all the tourists but close enough for a walk along the beach or a short tuk-tuk ride. The house is right on the beach so it was great when my 6 year old got up at 6am to go and play in the sand. The sea was too dangerous to swim in properly in July but we still had lots of fun in the shallows. The hotel next door is perfect for ordering a meal when you're feeling lazy (which was all the time!) and they bring it (and some cold Lion's) right to the house. On our last night the owner (the incomparable Samantha!) treated us to a free slap up Sri Lankan feast. The guys that run the house are very cool and do a great job of keeping the place clean and seeing to any other needs you may require. The best thing was chilling out on the very comfortable veranda just chatting and relaxing with our adopted dogs (Skinny Dog and Old dog) at our feet. A fantastic week. Thank you! P.S The house itself has no internet but the hotel didn't mind us using theirs.see more
