Coningham is on a small peninsula, 25 minutes south of Hobart. Situated between Snug and Kettering, Coningham is popular area with a small sandy beach that has excellent safe swimming. Historically it has been a popular holiday/day trip destination for Hobart residents and now it is a mix of permanents, many of whom commute daily to the city and “shacks” for the weekenders and school holidays. The north facing perspective features spectacular views of Mt Wellington and extra warmth on sunny days.
Coningham Cottage is virtual waterfront (limited access) and provides top quality accommodation for up to 5 people at a moderate price.
The cottage was originally built in the early 1940s, and was one of the very few homes in the area that survived the devastation of the 1967 bushfires which destroyed nearby Snug and surrounding houses.
We have made a series of tasteful renovations over the last 15 years, which have resulted in the “cottagy and rustic” feel, but with modern facilities to ensure comfort and convenience for all who stay here.
Fully self contained, the cottage is set up for a short weekend break or an extended holiday. All you’ll need is your food and your favourite “tipple”.
The kitchen has both gas and electric cooking facilities and a gas heater takes the “sting” out of the crisp early mornings. The large lounge/dining room has a very efficient wood burning stove and a ducting system takes extra heat to the front bedroom.
The view from the deck over North West Bay is a striking feature and it draws you to the sunroom and deck when you first enter the house. The double glazed sunroom onto the deck is cozy no matter what the weather, and is a great place to spend reading, snoozing or even catching glimpses of dolphins or shearwaters (mutton birds).
Local features such as Coningham Beach, Snug Falls, Kettering Marina and Hotel are short drives away, whilst the Huon Valley, Peppermint Bay, Bruny Island, the Tahune Airwalk, Dover, Kingston and Hobart, amongst others, provide a range of destinations to explore.
Local shops and restaurants in Snug, Margate, Kingston and Woodbridge cover a wide range of choices and tastes for your selection. The wider Channel area is blessed with wine and food outlets unique in Tasmania – vineyards, cheeses, cherries, stonefruits, berries, apples, mushrooms, ciders, quality meats, seafood, oysters and more!
Such local features are highlighted in the Huon Trail brochure and at huontrail.org.au
There is a lot to see and do in the area and Coningham Cottage provides a delightful base and a pleasure to "come home to" after a day exploring this lovely corner of Tasmania.TripAdvisor property ID 3788343...Read more

Viki is an ideal host, providing a comfortable home for our short time in Hobart. The cottage is exactly as shown in the photographs overlooking the Sea with Mount Wellington in the distance. Hobart is an easy 25 minute drive initially passing through suburbs which offer local shops providing everything needed for self-catering.
What we liked best was its quiet location on a private road.Altogether a great experience.

A very comfortable cosy cottage. Rooms are spacious each with large windows framing a view of the pretty native garden or expansive views of North West Bay and Mt Wellington . The eat in kitchen is well equipped. Our host welcomed us personally and very generously allowed us a late check out. Tourist brochures and other helpful information about the cottage is supplied. A library of books and Dvd' s is available . My preference would be for a slightly larger television. Coningham Cottage is located south of Hobart in Coningham, a sleepy coastal town with a quiet beach. It is a good base to travel the Huon trail and visit a cheesery, Bruny Island, chocolate shop called the Nutpatch and the quaint township of Cygnet. I would definitely stay at the cottage again if I had the chance.
Many thanks for your review! Glad you were so pleased with our set up. I understand about your point re the TV - I weigh the pros and cons often.
Thanks also for the tips to other travellers - new enterprises are constantly "popping up" which we mightn't know about and it's good to get your feedback.

Hard to make a judgement off the internet, however when we arrived at the cottage we were delighted. Lovely accommodation and magical location with stunning water and mountain views, in close commuting distance to Hobart. Had a wonderful stay and would recommend to anyone looking for holiday accommodation in the south of Tassie.
