Additional Location Information

Our "neighborhood" would be described as rural yet in 10 minutes you can be down our road and into civilization! It's so lovely and quiet up here on our little hill; filled with colorful gorgeous flowers and landscaping, and it's green year round. Yet we get less than half the rain that Hilo gets. We have the perfect year round temperature of approximately 76 degrees, while at the shoreline it can be 10 degrees hotter.

We are the last property up along the mountain side of Highway 11, ie, Mamalahoa Highway, just up the hill, before one would turn right to go to the City of Refuge. Our property is 7/10ths of a mile up a very bumpy with lots of twists and turns. We personally meet and guide you up upon arrival, no matter what time of day or night. We are gated and there is no sign nor looky-loos walking around looking for an office.

We have 3 acres and each of our 2 Cottages are separated by space and landscaping so each little house is very private and secluded. Our home is also here up at the very top of the property, however we cannot see nor hear you and visa versa. The views out of every window are of beautiful manicured lawns, palm and fruit trees, gorgeous tropical flowers, vines, and very tropical and mature landscaping. These are really upscale and resort quality accommodations!

Honaunau is a suburb of Kailua-Kona and is just 18 miles south of of town. We have several restaurants nearby, gas stations,a super market, fruit stands, farmer's markets, gift shops, art galleries, a collectibles mall, and are in the heart of the Kona Coffee Belt, a 20 mile span where the coffee produced here is known as 100% Kona coffee. The parking for each of our 2 Cottages is separate and also there is no through traffic as we are the last house up on this road.

There really is no public transportation to speak of on this island so one must rent a car at the airport upon arrival. Near by is the famous City of Refuge and Two Step Snorkeling beach, and is the perfect location to take a day trip to the Volcano, Hilo, or the Hamakua Side of the island. Going north along the Mamalohoa Hwy one can visit Kailua-Kona, and go to many different kinds of beaches. Further up the western side of the island, the leeward side, or the Kona side as that is the Hawaiian word for the leeward side, the sunny side btw, are Hapuna Beach and Puako Cove.

Then up at the very north end of the island are the towns of Hawi and at the end of the road is the Pululo Lookout which is exquisite and one can also hike down into that ravine.

There is so much to see and do here that one week is simply not enough time! As a side note, if you have not been to the Hawaiian Islands before, ALL of the other islands, Oahu, Maui, Kauai, etc. would fit inside the Big Island of Hawaii more than 2 times over! Please plan your trip knowing that there is very much to see and do here but it is all spread out and does require more time than staying on any one of the other islands.
