Enjoy our personalized service for your charming, large studio with private bathhouse and kitchenette. You are welcome to bring your morning coffee or tea or your evening cocktail onto our front deck overlooking the beautiful Pacific ocean. You can watch for whales, bask in the quiet of this peaceful plantation village and walk to Waipio Valley.
You will not see more stars anywhere in the world at night, possibly right from your bed or living room in this studio suite. This peaceful country getaway is bright and sunny by day and a stargazer's delight at night from the back yard. Bring your telescope and binoculars!
Waipio Valley is the most sacred valley on the island and the 2nd most visited natural site after Volcano National Park, yet our home is a peaceful gem overlooking scenic pastureland and the ocean with whales right out front in the winter, rainbows and an ever changing and beautiful sky, both in the day and at night.
Easy and scenic 1.5 mile walk from our house to the Waipio Valley overlook. You can also drive into Waipio Valley and beach (with 4WD) or you can hike to the back of the valley which has the 2nd highest waterfall in the USA.
If you are looking for more adventure, there is additional hiking into the next valley (Waimanu) which has THE highest waterfall in the USA.
Honoka'a and our 'village' of Kukuihaele are charming, historical plantation communities with access to
-Biking (rental place right in Honoka'a)
-ATV rides along the rim of Waipio Valley
-Wagon tours in Waipio valley
-Easy access to fresh and local veggies, macadamia nuts and fruit, often right from the front yard in the neighborhood for a nominal fee or multiple farmer's markets
-Walk to small gift shops and homemade ice cream from our house
Honoka'a town has cafes and gift shops as well as a historic movie theater which offers traditional and artistic films as well as local and upscale musical events. It is the only theater between Hilo and Kona and simply a jewel. Check out the Honoka'a People's Theater website for current and upcoming events. There is also a decent grocery store and another wonderful market where they sell amazing grass fed beef from the Big Island.
Our studio is attached to the main home and includes these features:
-Separate (three steps from the studio suite), private bath house, artistically decorated and with charming touches with open air access.
-Organic sheets on a double/full sized memory foam bed.
-High quality towels and bedding as well as ample closet and storage space.
-Kitchenette has small fridge, sink, a single induction cooktop, blender and toaster, as well as basic kitchenware and cookware for fixing small meals. Coffee/tea is also available in the suite.
-Comfortably sleeps 3 people and perhaps 4 if there are young children. It is best suited to couples.
-Large back yard/garden for stargazing and evening fires
-Use of a charcoal grill if desired
-Washer and dryer on site (extra fee applies) as well as a laundry line
-Basic cable television
-FREE wi-fi and if your cell doesn't work, you can make calls via your own computer for free via the internet-we'll help you. Cell phones out in the 'country' work on Verizon.
-If we have extra veggies, fruits and herbs from our organic garden, we're happy to share.
-Discount coupons and deals to local shops and activities available in your suite!
-Kids UNDER 1 year old stay for FREE
We love our guests! We love to get to know anyone who wants to chat. You can enjoy morning or evening access to our front deck all on your own or you are welcome to ask us any questions about the Big Island that you would like. We are always happy to chat or answer any questions you may have. We offer guide services for a very reasonable cost.
We have two small friendly dogs who will probably greet you when you arrive each time during your visit but they are never allowed in the studio so no worries if you have allergies. The same goes for our friendly cats. There are also bunnies in a hutch nearby the unit and we are always happy to show them off and invite them out for a pet if you'd like.
We are a 'green' household and only clean with non-toxic products and unscented laundry detergent.
All adult guests must sign a rental agreement and pay the 13.42% tax required by the state of Hawaii upon arrival. The rental agreement will be available to download when you confirm your booking.
Please note that the winter months (November through March) are the months of more rain so please plan accordingly in case of rainy days.
The Big Island has a bus system but it doesn't run out by our house (which keeps things quiet and private). To get around on the Big Island (and it IS BIG) your best bet is to rent a car.
A 4WD is very handy because there are a lot of rural, rough roads that are the most fun to explore.
We are 70 minutes from either Hilo or Kona airports so perfectly in the middle for exploring almost all of the Big Island in day trips.TripAdvisor property ID 3098079...Read more

My boyfriend and I just stayed a few weeks ago for 4 nights. Jeanne and Daniel are wonderful hosts that go above and beyond. They treated us like friends; making evening cocktails with fresh ingredients from their yard, sharing their binoculars for whale watching, and taking us on a walk to the Waipio Overlook that included tons of local history, and plant knowledge. They provided lots of restaurant and activity recommendations as well.
The studio is lovely, with an incredibly comfortable memory-foam bed. We had lots of space to relax and read on a rainy day, or make our morning coffee and fruit to enjoy at the outdoor table. The studio has everything needed if you want to do some grocery shopping to save on eating out. The bathhouse is private and cute, with endless hot water for showers. Honoka'a is an adorable town that moves to a slower pace, and is not to be missed.
We had a wonderful time, and highly recommend staying. We'd love to go back!

We had a wonderful stay at this studio. Jeanne and Daniel go above and beyond to make it such a memorable experience, especially the morning coffee and fruit, and sunset wine on the lanai. The studio is a sweet place to cook and rest after long days exploring the area. We recommend this studio and look forward to staying here again in the future. Aloha
