Casa de la Luz is located in the resort of Nuevo Portil, in the province of Huelva. The area is renowned for its beauty and tranquillity. This is a stunning townhouse, with accommodation over three floors. The beach is a 5 minute walk away, as are the local shops and restaurants. A real example of Spain at its best, and away from the more commercialised areas.
The house is located adjacent to the 14th Hole of the Nuevo Portil Golf Resort. There are many other golf courses closeby, including the renowned courses in the next village of El Rompido.
The area is perfect for families, with many play parks and the swimming pool at the accommodation has a life guard, as well as a baby pool. The pool is literally 30 seconds from the door of the house and is set in lovely gardens. Padel tennis is very popular in this area, as it is elsewhere in Spain, and the Hoyo 14 community has its very own courts. Fun for all of the family and racquets are available for those who may wish to have a bash!
Casa de la Luz is very well equipped and a real home from home. All of your needs have been thought of. The kitchen is very well equipped, and also has a dishwasher and washing machine for your use. There are tables for dining both inside the house and outside.
The house is air-conditioned throughout and we do not charge extra for this. There are also shutters which also serve in keeping the house very cool in peak season, when it can be quite hot.
There is much to do in the area and many water sports on offer. There are also boat trips over to the Fleche, which protects the beaches along this coast from the Atlantic. The beaches are amongst the best in the world and are cleaned every evening. Along the beaches, you will find many seafood restaurants where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch. The seafood is second to none and the area is famous for its Iberico pork which is delicious and not to be missed. The local wine is also excellent.
Seville is one hour away by car and there is also a train service from nearby Huelva. Isla Magica is a great day out if you have children and is fairly central in Seville. It is a beautiful city with its stunning cathedral and little Tapas Bars dotted everywhere. The bus tour is worthwhile, but only in the cooler months.
Closer to home is Punta Umbria, the first Spanish "resort" ever. It was developed for the Rio Tinto employees, and there is still much in evidence relating to these times. Punta Umbria has a fairly lively night life for those that find Nuevo Portil a little too quiet!
Huelva, the capital of Huelva Province is at first glance, a fairly industrial town but look closer and you will find that it is seeped in history. Huelva and its environs is a Mecca for those interested in Christopher Columbus, with a number of significant tourist attractions relating to the famous explorer. It is also the home of Recreativo Huelva, the local team who have a huge support and a game can be seen for a good price.
For those wishing to explore further afield, Cadiz and Jerez, whilst a little further away, are still well within reach and many of our guests do indeed visit these towns.
El Rocio, in the Donana National Park is another worthwhile place to visit. It is a sprawling, pretty Wild-West-style place (you tie your horse to a wooden rail with a sign saying "Reservado Caballos" - reserved for horses - while you have a drink or a meal), with sandy, unpaved roads (easier on the hooves). For a few days in late May or early June, Catholic hermandades (brotherhoods) and countless others flock from all over Andalucia, Spain, and beyond, to the town, to pay tribute to the Virgin del Roció, housed in her own church in the town. The area is also a haven for birdwatchers.
Closer to home, the village of El Rompido is a typical fishing village with its sleepy streets and vibrant little square. It has several shops and supermarkets, along with many beach front restaurants. A visit to El Rompido is a must!
Cartaya is also a short drive form the house and is an interesting Spanish town with many little shops and Paella restaurants.
En-route to Cartaya is the Aquopolis Water Park. A brilliant day out for families and big kids too! Located adjacent to this is the Go Karting. Another great day out.
When it comes to food, you will be amazed at the choice available. From Tapas and Pizza to fine dining, you have an amazing selection. Should you wish to eat in, there are many supermarkets locally and in both Cartaya and Huelva, you will find Carrefour which meets your every need.
