Description from owner

Description

Fairfield is a delightful, two bedroomed Edwardian cottage all on one level. It is situated on the Northern shore of Loch Fyne, has panoramic views of the loch & the surrounding hills and is ideal for doorstep walking up into the hills or along the shores of the Loch. It is also a perfect base from which to explore the West Highlands.

The cottage has been recently renovated to a high standard which successfully combines the convenience of contemporary living with the warmth and comfort of a cosy cottage. Many of the original features are retained, including high ceilings, doors and fireplaces. Whatever the weather or time of year, the wood burning stove in the sitting room (an addition to the central heating) ensures the cottage remains warm, inviting, and very welcoming after a day on the hills.

The cottage has been furnished with every attention to detail, from the gentle farrow & ball colour on the walls and fine linen on the comfortable beds, to the soft furnishings throughout the house which reflect the Highlands.

Furnace is only six miles from Inveraray. With its famous Castle, Jail and The George -a great place for food , live music and the craic! Inveraray is a “must do” visit.

Lochgilphead, Kilmartin Glen and Oban (the Gateway to the Isles) are all within driving distance. Taking a ferry to Mull and/or Iona makes for a fabulous day out.

There is a local village store/post office within five minutes walking distance. The nearest supermarket is in Inveraray. The area is well known for its fine food and local produce. The original Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and Inverawe Smokery both being close by (around 45 minutes by car)!

Fairfield is not only a home from home -offering a multitude of things to fill at least a week, but also a wonderful place in which to unwind, relax and explore the immediate Loch and countryside around the cottage, or further afield.

“A beautiful holiday cottage”

“Beautiful cottage with hills behind and loch over the road.”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2021

A lovely, well presented cottage with all the amenities you need. Beds with fluffy duvets and comfy beds. It really did give that 4 star hotel feel. The conservatory gives a panoramic view of the stunning view. So peaceful too. Lots of dvds and games for the cosy nights with a really log burning fire. It was very clean and beautifully presented with lovely touches that made it feel modern cottage and yet cosy. A lovely welcome gift left from the owner. Owner really friendly and responsive to any communication and questions, even recommending places to horse ride. A high standard of a cottage and a perfect base, with Oban an hour and Loch Lomond an hour. You need a car for this location. We visited Loch Lomond on the way through and didn’t return as there is so much to do this side of the lochs. Invereray is 15 mins in the car. Thats a lovely day out with a castle, prison and walks. The co op and a food londis are the only bigger food shops. In furnace itself there is a post office and little shop 2mins away. Really helpful. And a great walking knowledge with a board with some lovely walks on . Definitely worth doing. Easy with kids and about 3 hours. Loch Aww has a power station to visit and a good walk to the damn at the top. The steep walk- do Not do with kids! Its up a mountain face, we thought we had gone the wrong way, eventually got out but no way you could go back that way. Better to do the easy walk on the website. Argyle adventures is great for family fun. 5 mins down the road. Great horse trekking and crossbow, laser tag etc. Couldn’t find anywhere to canoe or do water sports. Oban or fort William had some, and there was some good ones too like river bugging but fully booked. So much to do we never got to do half of it, so will need to visit again as I can’t believe how breathtaking the scenery around here is. I would definitely come back to this cottage again!
