Description from owner

Description

Valasay offers a real home from home in an area that allows you to be as active as you want or to chill out as much as you need.

Located in a National Scenic Area and a marine Special Area for Conservation, Valasay is on the route of the fabulous coastal walk to the beach at Bosta.

This recently built, semi-detached croft house is set in one of the most beautiful locations on the Isle of Lewis overlooking the Kyles of Valasay where grey seals, dolphins and many species of sea and shore birds are regularly to be seen. At the bottom of the drive is a 100 year old footbridge across a Marine Special Area for Conservation. This designation has been given to protect rare varieties of marine invertebrates and seaweeds. The flow of water changes with the tides and offers a unique atmosphere to the house as you lie in your bed listening to the soothing sound of the water flowing.

For more information and photos of the interior and exterior click on the images link on the left.

Located on a 20 acre croft, we offer:-

2 bedrooms sleeping 4 people

Wireless broadband

Fridge/Freezer

Dishwasher

Real coal fire and oil central heating

Tasteful decor using Farrow and Ball colours

Peace and relaxation.

Great Bernera is a very scenic island, and is the perfect location to indulge in walking, fishing and birdwatching. Our house is located in an excellent area for walking, with a way marked circular coastal walk leading from your door to the magnificent beach at Bosta where in 1996 archaeological excavations revealed the site of an Iron Age settlement. Elsewhere in Bernera, other walks you can enjoy are to a Norse Mill or to an iron age Broch at Loch Baravat. For the more energetic, sea-kayaking can be enjoyed from the shore at the bottom of the drive, giving access over to Uig and the beautiful islands in between.

Valasay is a forty-minute drive from Stornoway, and is ideally placed to explore the very scenic and historical district of Uig, or the west-side loop of Lewis that includes the world famous Standing Stones at Callanish, and the Arnol Blackhouse.

Whether you want to experience the Gaelic culture at the new Arts Centre, catch a trout or two for tea or just relax in front of the open fire, Valasay has something special to affer everyone.

In the words of one of our guests

"Fabulous everything - house, Island, hospitality, stuff to see & do, weather - everything WOW! A real escape, already plotting our return."

Very good place for staying at the remote west coast of Lewis. Great for exploring Great Bernera. Really dark at night, therefore wonderful starry skies, sometimes even Aurora lights from inside.
